250 savage?

Of course it depends on what bullet weight(s) and what powder(s) you use. Generally speaking with 75gr bullets you can get mid-3,200s PFS. With 85gr-87gr bullets you can approach 3,100 FPS, say the high 3,000s FPS. With 90gr bullets you can get mid-2,900s to low 3,000s FPS. With 100gr bullets you can get mid-2,800s to low 2,900s FPS. With 115gr-117gr bullets you get mid-2,500s to low 2,600s FPS. With 120gr 2,500 to approaching 2,600 FPS.

However every rifle is an individual and yours (if you get it) can deliver + or - what the "books/maunuals" say.

My Ruger M77 likes 36.0gr of IMR-4064 and a Sierra 87gr Spitzer at 3,077 FPS.

What kind of speeds can I get that 250 up to, My Hornady manual didn't make it look as good as the .243. The Remington sure is a shooter though, I've never owned a Remington due to budget restraints. I must say I'm impressed. It even stabilzed my 58gr hot coyote loads, that my old .243 doesn't like.

The Hornady Manual is going to be conservative in the data for the 250 savage. There are too many of the old lever guns out there. In a modern bolt action you can usually work up to a higher performance in the 250 Savage than the books will allow for.

Ain't a BDL 243 been made that I would trade my tang safety 250 for. That's not ment to slight the Remmy, just that I really like the Ruger .250. Get just over 2900 with 35-H4350 and the 100 Hornady, and just under 3200 with the 75 hp and a stiff load of Varget. Both shoot better than my M70 .243 and it ain't no slouch. Don't know what part of Kansas you're from, but you're welcome to drop by and shoot mine to help make up your mind. Or you could give me the name of the guy with the Ruger, my son has been looking for one and can't find any not priced for the collector market.

I'd make the trade. I've got a Savage model 45 in 250-3000 that I just love. Light recoil, and it'll shoot 1/2" groups when fed Hornady 87 grainers pushed by 35.5 gr of 4064. The 250 Savage is an under appreciated caliber.
