Needing some loads for a 1/10" twist 256 Win Mag. Looking for info on 117grs and/or 120grs loads. Got some good load info for the 75grs and 87grs but need info on the heavy bullets. Thanks,
Alan

There is a huge spike in pressure and lack of case volume from the longer bullets in this catridge and bullets exceeding 87 grains are not recommended in all of the loading data I could find. To keep the pressure down light loads can be developed with pistol powders and 117 grain bullets but the velocity is under 1100ft/sec.

You might have trouble stablizing those 120's at that low of a velocity with a 1 in 10 twist. Win. factory 25-35 came in 1 in 8.

Alan, what are you shooting for a weapon? I use a Marlin model 62 lever and I also have a T/C contender. I use the Hornady 60 gr. flat nose in the Marlin because I cannot shove the 75 gr. stuff down enough to chamber. I have also had trouble with the larger pills in my contender. 15.9 grains of IMR4227 with a 60 grain pill works great in my Marlin. If you are yote huntin' with it, that 60 gr. pill "WILL" snipe a yote no prob. Like Colorado eluded to, that is an awfully short case to try to fit a 120 grain pill and powder into.

Hey guys,

I'm familiar with the length issue for the heavier bullets and the small case capacity for the 256WM. My rifle is a Brown 97D falling block with a 25" barrel. The rifle is being throated for the 75 gr VMax with a reamer I had made. Needing some loads for the heavier bullets to use in a barrel break-in procedure I am wanting to try. Not too worried about them stablizing as I will only be firing about 50 and for break-in only. Thanks for the comments.

Asking for loads for a custom throated unusual chamber is not likely to generate much usefull info. I would suggest talking to whoever designed the reamer. They surely have more experience with it.
