.257 Roberts Ackley Imp???

Dang, I'd just go with a .257wby mag in a nice MarkV setup (many types....quite custom if you like). Great reliability, velocity is out of this world for production ammo, accuracy is pretty good and if you hit your game as you should you wont be tracking much.

One flat shooting round.

Where you at on the western slope? I know a couple of gunsmiths you need to talk to about this. The one in Delta build my 250 sav. on a short remington. It also has a extra barrel in 22/250.

ghj- I'm in Clifton. I am planning on having Del's gunshop do the work. I've heard nothing but good things other than that he takes a long time to do anything--a fact he readily admitted on the phone.

Perf- I've got a glass bedded Mark V .224 Weatherby that is out of this world in handling and accuracy--have had some feeding problems in the past but the bolt is super smooth.

I've already got this M77mkII and I won't sell or shoot it the way it is, so it really needs a barrel. I've got enough predator/varmint calibers but I'm deer rifle poor!

My custom 25-06 was a .257 Ackley and was rechambered before I bought it. For my purpose as a deer gun the 25-06 is perfect and gets me away from shooting all thos overkill super mags.

You ought to give Ray Montgomery at Ray's Gunsmithing. He is in Clifton also. He knows more about the Ackley cartidges than any I know.
