257 Roberts Coyote and Fox Bullets

Hi folks,

Looking for a load in the 257 Roberts that will do foxes and coyotes but buck the wind better than my 223 Rem.

There is a deal I can get on Hornady 75gr V-Max from a shop I use. Does anyone have any load data for it? Ramshot puts data for the 75gr Sierra HP between 47-52gr. Reckon if I started low and worked up that would be OK?

Any other suggestions on a good bullet for the Bob?

Sierra has a free app for your phone or tablet.
Alliant has data for their powders available online.
Hornady has an app you can get free, then pay 1 dollar for a particular cartridge's load data or 20 for the whole app and get the next book.
Hodgon Powder company has free info as well.

What powders do you have on hand?

What bullets are available to you in these times?

I hope your not saving fur, I've shot the 75r V-max out of my 25-204 at 3150fps and it take very large chunks of meat bone and fur out of coyotes, I've only kept one in a coyote and that was shooting one lengthwise.

if you can get the VMAX locally, I say go for it and try it. I wouldnt expect you to care about fur if you are asking about a .257 Roberts but be aware that its not friendly. It seems .25 cal light bullets in general are hard to find but Nosler and Sierra offerings are just as good or better and can be used on larger game too.

Maybe hit up yellowhammer. He use to use a 257 roberts exclusively and had good results using light bullets with minimal pelt damage even on cats.

No, sadly there is no market for fur here. I'm just looking for something humane and effective that flies better than my .223 Rem in winds.

I owned a 257 Roberts and killed many a deer with it. I was shooting 30 caliber rifles until the Roberts came along. It seemed like a speed demon compared to the 30 caliber stuff. Coyotes and fox don't stand a chance.

I shoot 100 grain Bullets in mine. I don’t want varmint type bullets in a 25 caliber for shooting Yotes. With a larger bore like this just shoot them as you would a Deer.

I do like my Bob.

For deer I like 117gr or 120gr pills (Sierra GK, Speer BTSP and Nosler Partition) but I think they might not be quite the thing for foxes (Bit hard) and a lighter bullet would shoot nice and flat
