In your experience, what factory loads have given you the best results?

I have been using the Hornady Light Magnums, but they seem to be rarer than hens teeth right now. Nowbody has them, and can't seem to get them.

I can find the Remington, Winchester and Federal, but really wanted to stick with the Hornady.

YH, when I was shooting factory, I tried everything but the Federal premium 120's shot the best. Expensive though. I was using them on whitetails. I haven't started reloading again but I am shooting the 100gr ballistic tips and softpoints from T's guns out of Texas City. I buy my 55gr. NBT's from there also by the 100 ct. This is out of a Reminton 700 Classic.

When I could find them, I liked Winchesters 100gr SP. Why more ammo makers don't build around the 100gr bullet beats me. The 100gr bullet is designed for .25 cartridges especially with more efficient cases like the 257 Roberts and 250-3000.

Hornady needs to get their act together. I called just about everywhere within a 100 miles of here based on the "retailers" from their website. Nobody had the Hornady and acted like they didn't know when they could get any.

I called Hornady and they said they should be able to get it, but the retailers are giving me a different story.

You would think I could find a few boxes on the shelves.

I have never seen the 100gr. in stores.

Sounds reasonable I will try to get ahold of Yellowhammer as I will be in Grand Isand next week and will be at Hornady
Mauser

I use 100gr and 117gr and Nosler BTs, in front of IMR 4350 in my .257 Ackley Improved. I use it for coyotes (I don't collect fur) and whitetails.

I would love to take a pronghorn someday with this rifle. It is a sporterized Mauser 96 action dated 1927, with a 24" Shaw barrel.

I absolutely loved the way the old Winchester silvertip 117gr bullets anchored deer like like lightening bolt. In timber accuracy was more than acceptable and results were spectacular. But, those rounds have all but disappeared (I have 8 left) and the Hornady Light Magnums have taken their place in my choice of factory loads. When those eight Winny rounds are gone we'll see what happens to deer with the Hornady loads. They do well on varmints and show decent expansion (not real fur friendly)...

I've killed a couple dozen deer with the Light Magnums and had very good results. I have also taken a couple of coyotes with them and minimal pelt damage.

My delima now is I can't find the dang things.

They were using an interlock bullet, but the Hornady websight shows them to be an SST now.

I was giving about $20-23 a box, but the Hornady site price is $32.

The retailers around here seem to be having trouble getting them, and most only carry 2 or 3 boxes of 257 Roberts total on their selves.

Is is like this everywhere, or just in my neck of the woods?

YH,you may have to do like the rest of us and roll your own.
I have 1 box of 100gr Winchester left and it will be used to fire form in the 257 AI.

Midsouth is out of stock. Midway is out of stock. Cabelas is out of stock. Natchez doesn't show it on their website. Any other ideas for this guy to get mail order?

Looks like a good excuse to start reloading.
