.257 Weatherby Mag

nice .the cooper has some really pretty wood models available. another would be a m5 accumark in 257. anothe would be a rem 700 witha krieger barrel in 257, 6.5-284 .

Well, besides the fact that Cooper firearms gave $ to help support Obama in his election, I think it would be awesome!

I have a .257 wby custom built on a remington 700 action and have takne fox, bobcats, coyotes, baboons, coues deer and other assorted African game with it... I love it!

The .257 WBY is a terrific round. I doubt there is a better cartridge for deer and antelope around. Shooting predators could produce some dramatic exit wounds but would kill coyotes stone dead way out there.

I have a 257 WBY mag in a Rem CDL 26" fluted barrel. I really like it but I am currently shipping it to my gunsmith, it used to shoot .57 moa at 100yds, now its grown to 1.12moa at 100yards with the same loads. Take in account its a brand new rifle with less than 200 rounds down the tube. Another problem is I think its the famous rem extractor it wont extract a spent case. Just something to think about. I would probably buy a vangaurd next time, slap a timney trigger and throw on a lilja barrel and call it good it would be less money than a cooper.

PM sent as not to hijack the thread.

My brother has a Vanguard that he purchased as a pkg gun and he swears by it. He initally got it to one up my 25-06 and the more he shoots it the more he likes it. It is a tack driving S.O.B. and he has made some pretty long shots with it. He shoots the ugly round nose bullets, not sure what type they are, out of it and it is pure murder on deer and pigs.

I love Coopers and Love the .257 WBY. BUUUUUTTTTT (thats a big butt) I would probably go with a Ultralight Weatherby, wait thats what I did do!

Thats allot of money for a Cooper last time I priced them out anyways, I own/owned 5 or them and every single one has shot the lights out.

Everyones taste is different and I may not want to buy a Cooper .257Roy, I sure as [beeep] wouldn't turn one down. And if by chance you don't like it you can send it to me and I will properly dispose of it for you. I will do this over the next 40-50yrs, making sure it has a long slow painful death.

You Sir are a true gentleman for this kind offer.

Put a custom barrel on any action and wack the feebore to about 0.000-0.050 and you will not believe how accurate and fast this round can be for those that reload.

100's at 3800-3850 fps
85's at 4130 fps

The .257 wby continues to impress me. It impresses me so much, that when I go to British Columbia in October to hunt big, thick mule deer and whitetail, I will be taking my .257 wby instead of my Kimber 300 wsm.

Trust me on this...

Pair the rifle with a 100 TTSX and things will die... QUICKLY. That combination is [beeep] on all things that move.

And, as to the Weatherby Ultra lite... Great gun! I actually designed my custom exactly after it, minus the flutes.

After doing a bunch of reading, I'm now unsure about which rifle to buy?

I have talked to my gunsmith, and the firing pin hole is oversized and the extractor is junk, I am taking it back to scheels and they are giving me a full refund, then I am going to buy the sub-moa and slap a timney trigger in it. Bolts arent cheap and alot of times the barrel has to be rechambered in order to get the right headspace to accompany the new bolt, well I am not going to chance it, its a 50-50 chance, and I dont wont to put that kind of money in a factory barrel.

And as far as the cooper goes my gunsmith "Snowy MTN Rifles" in Missoula, MT is building a rifle for one of the guys that works for cooper in Stevensville, MT. That should tell you something. I am not saying anything about coopers I would love to have one but that just seems a little strange.

That wouldn't strike me as abnormal.

A custom rifle is a custom rifle. A Cooper is a Semi-custom rifle.

If I wanted a custom rifle, I wouldn't choose Cooper as my builder either. But if I wanted a nice off the shelf rifle then Cooper has gotten the nod before and hopefully will again when I find the right JSR in 17HMR.
