257 Weatherby or 25-06?

I have been using a 25-06 for years now, very versatile rifle. Great for coyotes, pigs, and deer.

Never used a 257 Wby, but it is good round also.

Have you looked at the ammo prices for .257 in your area?

Given the prices I've seen, I would think for most people the ammo cost would be a factor. I've seen prices from $45-$65 a box. Obviously, I'm sure there are cheaper sources, but finding them is always a hassle.

Also, no matter what the price, bullet choices will be very limited in factory loads if there is any choice at all. Even the .25-06 will have more choices in most stores.

I would strongly consider a 6mm-06. I hear that the bullet selection is much better in the 6mm caliber than in the .25 caliber. I really wanted to build a .240 weatherby, but i think the 6mm-06 would be pretty good as well.

.25-06 is what I would use as a cross over caliber i guess if you really wanted a .25. The .257 Weatherby is throwing a lot of powder out there for Coyotes etc. The 06 would be much cheaper and just as fun.

My best optics are on my .257 Weatherby...
