260 AI Brass Question

So I'm thinking about building a custom 260 AI but I don't quite understand how the forming of the brass is done on these? I can buy a 260 AI die but is it as easy as taking 260 Rem brass and resizing with the die? I guess people fire form these too but does the brass not ever require a full length resize? I appreciate any info you guys would have on this and thanks in advance!

To get the ai you will fire form the 260 brass. You can buy the 260ai die because the die needs to be shaped like the ai brass will be after fire forming to get proper sizing. Just running 260 brass through a 260ai die doesn’t make 260ai brass. Google 260 vs 260ai pictures and you should be able to find a picture of both cases next to each other.

I use the cream of wheat method to form mine. I use 8-9 grains (start low and work up) of titegroup, fill case with COW, pack with a small rod, and put a small piece of paper towel packed on top. If you are looking for cheap dies, you may want to consider the standard lee 260 collet dies. They work great for neck sizing the 260AI and I use them more than my expensive 260AI FL or neck sizer.

unburnt cream of wheat can get heated and cooked on the lands. I fired 1000 22/250 AI's in one day with a new Rem sporter bbl re chambered to AI. I used a 6 gallon bucket of water to cool the barrel. The barrel shot 5/8" when done which is a miracle....I got around 300 rounds of accuracy out of the barrel and the gun quit shooting like turning on a light switch.

COW is some nasty stuff to get out of your barrel. Good brushes, JB, and Montana Extreme Copper cream help a lot.
