Okay the other thread got locked... lets not get this one locked

From what I pulled out of my other thread i think im going to go a .260 bolt gun. Hows the performance of this round at 600-800 Yards?

Can one give me advice on what I should get spec wise? Like what Barrel twist, Barrel lenght, ect... I plan on shooting out to 800yard with it.

It would have to be an AR-10 and I'm not aware of any commercial offerings so I'm guessing a custom job if you could find someone to do it.

Trued sucks action
Any of the top barrel makers (PN, Mike Rock, Krieger...ect.)
1:8" twist
24"
Reworked '700 trigger, RB, or Jewell trigger
McMillan, Manners, HS/BC stock, or perhaps a VS take off or VLS take off stock
Seekin's 20 moa rail
Seekins 1"/30mm low rings
Scope (insert here.)

I use a Sako 75 .260 to hunt with. If building a .260, go with a 1/8 twist and that will give you all the twist you need to get out to 800 yards. If loading, try some H4350.

Whats a trued sucks action?

And is it as simple as installing it all together? Can you headspace it correctly easily?

Don't even present the Savage as an option, Mike.....

I would run a Savage action cause you can do all the work yourself. Plus you don't have to spend the extra cash on a gunsmith to true your action. Plus it would probably be just as accurate. But the 260 is a nice choice.

I guess I would try to find one of the Model 10s with the HS Precision stocks and rebarrel it to a 260 plus you could recoop some of your cash by reselling the barrel you took off.

There is a reason why the 700 action is the basis(copied) for more custom actions around by far.

There also is a reason why it is the basis for more custom builds by far.

..... and the top selling bolt action rifle of all time with the military, the police, and civilians.

Other than that, it really doesn't have much going for it.......

Did I forget that there are more after market parts available for it than any other bolt action rifle on the planet and they are easily obtained for less money on the internet, due to it's sheer popularity?

You can readily find quality 700 parts for a build by shopping the gun forums. It's even fun.......

Ken,

You'll have to see my new hat...grin.

Waiting with bells on......grins

What SuperSeal said, he nailed it. The only difference from my 260's is I have a couple with McMillan stocks and I have a Rifle Basix trigger in one of them. H4350 is the powder to go with.

You got that right. Remmy has definately been popular in the news lately LOL. You picked up Orkans shovel didn't you.

Hard to argue with facts. Let me know which one of those statements you disagree with.

You are the EXACT type of clueless human play dough the left-wing media was targeting in the 700 trigger "report", judging by your comments.

Do you ever get tired of interjecting smart azzed comments without ever contributing a single bit of knowledge to this forum?

I guess it's hard to give that which you don't have........
