Hi guys,

Got a quick question for you. I just picked up a win m70 in 264 win mag. I have found that some people like them some people hate them. This one has the 24'' barrel with the 1 in 9 twist rate. Im looking for bullet and powder suggestions to use this on deer, elk and bear. Im thinking 130gr accubond and some 7828,whats your ideas?

I think the .264 WM is a wonderful cartridge. I shoot a Remington Sendro with a 26" barrel. My best load is using 130 gr Swift SciroccoII with h4831sc powder. When I was developing my load I also tried 7828ssc. They both shot well, but the h4831sc had better velocity and the same accuracy.

I agree, I built a Savage 264WM a few years back.
I also used H4831SC. My only gripe was with the 140gr bullets. The pressure signs tended to come on rather quickly as I approached max, in load development.
Interestingly, when I stole a pile of 338WM brass from my brother and resized it; that problem went away.

For deer the 123g HOrnady Sp is a whale of a bullet with IMR 4831 and 9 1/2 primers. I would swap out to the Barnes of similar weight for bears and elk.

I never could get the accuracy in my model 70 that I wanted with the 140's and they zipped right though deer, 123's were much better.e

I have one in a pre 64 M70 Winchester and I love it. Butter smooth action. I traded for it, have no idea how many rounds down the tube, Don't even care as it shoots good groups around 1" and less. It sure is not a tack driver by no means.
I retired a M700 Rem. in 300 Win. Mag. when I got this toy.

I use plain old Hornady 140 gr. bullets.

The first year I used it I got a great 3X4 mule deer with it.

going to redo my case sizing so it headspaces off the shoulder instead of the belt. ( bump the shoulder back .002/.001 )
