I tried IMR 4831 and a 130 Nosler, results were decent, 1/2"-5/8" at 100yds. I was recommended to try H4831SC with my Noslers and result were kinda sucky. Whats next? Just looking for an accurate deer load in my 270 Remington 700. Lots of powders, whats your favorite?

The following were the results i had doing development on a rem700 270. These are 4 shot groups with about 4-5 minutes between shots in 88 degree weather with about 65% humidity. This gun did not like shooting hot. It would string almost in a perfect verticle line.

55gr of h4831sc with some 150gr nbts grouped at .564" (max load)
54.5gr of re22 with some 150gr nbts grouped at .762" (mid load)

56gr of re22 with some 130gr nbts grouped at .715" (mid load)
57gr of h4831sc with some 130gr nbts grouped at .726" (mid load)

53gr of re22 with some 140gr nbts grouped at .769" (starting load)
58gr pf h4831sc with some 140gr nbts grouped at .725" (max load)

These are measured outside edge to outside edge.

What is wrong with 1/2" groups? It is a hunting gun not a bench rest gun.

For a hunting rifle, I'd be happy with that level of accuracy at 100 yards. Stretch it out another couple hundred and see what it does, then decide if you want to keep experimenting.

I guess somewhere there is a rifle that goes against the flow but I have never had a .270 Winchester that wouldn't settle right down with a stiff dose of H4831 and a quality 130 gr. bullet. To my mind sub-moa fits that definition pretty well from a regular issue standard weight hunting rig (if that is what your rifle is).

270 win loads
Winchester Brass
CCI-200 Primer
130gr bullet

H4831 @ 60grs. (Best in several rifles)
IMR 4350 @ 55.0grs 2nd
H4350 @ 55-55.5grs 3rd

Good Luck!

I wouldn't look anymore....

From a factory barrel/rifle any sub-MOA is fantastic. I know I've burned through a heck of a lot of money trying to get .80 groups down to .5 and less....and that hasn't happened very often.

I'm pushing .277 Barnes TSX 130's with 4831SC @ 3020fps with awesome results in my Browning A-Bolt and Savage. Neither did well up in the max range. After backing the charges down, and tweaking the seating a little more (they like a jump), they became my pet loads on this caliber.

With the groups your shooting now I don't know why your still searching. But, it's your decision. Anyway, my .270 has loved most any 130 gr bullet with 55.0 grs. of I4350. I have never chronyed that load because I don't want to know how fast (or not) it's flying. it's provided me 1/2" or less groups with Sierra and Nosler's forever. Good Luck.

I'm not a 270 fan, but have owned a couple.

If I did use one, I'd be using R-22.

Sounds like you already found a good load, though.......

Yes, the IMR works well and plenty good for hunting. Just always like an alternative plan in case something goes wrong. And I also like trying different loads. You never know, a bug hole may appear!

Me either 2much but I got a good deal on this rifle and figure it to be a project rifle this winter when season is over. This is the 2nd 270 I have owned in my life and if it wasn't for the price, I probably wouldn't have bought it. Figure [beeep] shoot it till seasons over!!

Ya 1/2 in. groups would be fine with me. .277 with 3 or 5 shots it must look like a ragged hole on the target. Usually when I get to that point I leave well enough alone.
