.280 Rem vs .308 Win ?

I have a .280 in a stainless Ruger. Love that gun. After it was floated and put a trigger in it...it shoots 3/8" groups all day long with Federal Fusion 140 grains. 160 gr Vital Shok Accubonds come in a very close second. There it is....the deer load and the elk load. Your gun may not like em, but I'd certainly try them and find out.

The 6.5x284 has shown quicker than expected throat erosion but have great accuracy. If I were chambering in 6.5,..it would be a 6.5x55 or 6.5x55AI (I am currently running this one) They both are less capacity than the 6.5x284 but will shove the bullets to the same speed (accuracy node for the 140's is 2900-3000fps but moreso around 2950)

I would use a 280 for 1000yd paper before the 308. The 280 will provide more space for slower powders to get the VLD pills moving whereas once you hit the 180+gr pills,..the 308 is struggling,..not that it won't do it,..but the 280 will do it better.

Now ya wanne be confused??? I have a 280AI that is one bad azz performer. On the heals of the 7mm mag but with much less powder. Good for throat life and gets the VLD's moving plenty fast for 1000yd paper.

I'd use a 260, 260AI, 7-08, 7-08AI, 6.5x55, or 6.5x55AI before the 308.

If you are proficient,....a 6BR or 6 Dasher will do it,..but ya better be good with wind flags and mirage.
