284 Winchester

Rolling around the idea of building a 284 Win. for a hunting rifle. I have an extra Defiance short action with 308 bolt and would like to put it to use. I was thinking of a 284 running the 160 Accubond or Berger 140-168 classic hunters.

Any of you guys ran these combos?

I'm a fan of just about anything 284 whether it's in a 6, .257, 6.5, or 284 variant. If you're in a hurry for a barrel and can't find one I have two new Bartlein 284 barrels sitting on the shelf. I'd sell one of them if you were interested.

Thanks, I appreciate the offer, I'm trying to build something lightweight and I'm thinking about 22":carbon wrapped Bartlein or maybe a Carbon 6.

If I recall the two I have are Bartlein's 3B contour and 8tw so not particularly heavy but certainly not what I'd call LW either. Probably like yourself I run everything suppressed and when I ordered them it's the contour Frank recommended for use with a can. I don't know about Carbon 6 but I know Bartlein's CF wrapped barrels are typically heavier then most because they don't turn them down as small as other companies do before they're wrapped.

I have 2, 284 Win rifles, A-Bolt, and a 1970 Model 77 Ruger. The 284 is my favorite chambering, though it’s close to a 7mm-08, even a 308.

As long as one can reload, no worries about ammo.

This caliber is one of my favorites. I did a barrel swap from 30-06 to 284 win. I would recommend you go with a long action or at least a medium.
