2nd Annual LBL hunt

KF, Would a fourteen year old that teaches his senior team mates on the ball team how to fall down have the moxy to hunt over your carcass? He has a bruised toe and knee and according to mom it's likely there are several sets of bruised ribs in the jr's and sr's. All he had to say in his defense was coach told me to get physical! You bet he would!!

Located two more groups at the heads of drainages tonight on the way out. They were not talking a lot today for some reason. Saw a couple of trappers working in zones 6 and 7. They were succesful. I looked at a lot of territory tonight by headlight and will go back when I can. I have a hard time believing I didn't get answers in those places. Jimmie

First of all, now I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it. My work has sent me to a monthly class and Friday, Feb. 6th is my next one. Since they're paying if I miss I believe I may be **** canned.

Second, it's a 12-13 hour drive for me so if I somehow get out of the class I'll leave early Friday morning (4 am) and get there around 4-5 pm. Where the heck am I going exactly? And how much money do I need?

Third, if I have to go to the class I won't be able to leave until Friday around 4-5 pm, which puts me down there around 5-6 am Saturday. Would that be possible or would I have already missed the boat?

Thanks for the info.

Just based on last year, Gino, most of the hunting will be Saturday and Sunday. I don't know if anyone's keeping an official log, but I think there are a few guys coming as early as Wed or Thurs and I'm sure there are some guys who can't make it until Saturday. Last year I'm pretty sure there were at least a couple of guys who stayed through the following Monday or Tuesday.

Maybe if you have to go to class on Friday you could take Monday off. That would let you hunt at least part of Saturday and all day Sunday. Just a thought.

The main thing is not to talk yourself into something that might be dangerous or stupid, like driving all that way with no sleep. We'd love to meet you, but that just wouldn't be worth it, man. Odds are good this hunt will happen again next year, y'know?

I'm in-state, so I'll have to let one of the other guys quote the non-resident license cost. On top of that, there's an LBL permit that costs I think around $10. A lot of the cabins at the camp are already rented by our guys, but they have 4-6 bunks in each, so I'm sure you could work out a deal with some of the other guys and get your bunk pretty cheap. As for food, last year guys brought their own stuff and then we had one guy (Wayne?) who cooked a big pot of chili one night and everyone kicked in a buck or two for the hot meal. I think that's about what we're looking at for this year as well. Eating places are a pretty fair drive from the camp.

Come on down Gino,

The license fees for the Kentucky side are $32.50 for a five day permit and $20 for the LBL permit. Don't have the prices for Tennessee, but are similar. Bring some food and a warm sleeping bag and I'm sure someone will take you in!

Tennesee...7-Day Hunt-Small Game/Waterfowl (Type 072)$30.50
Annual......Hunt-Small Game/Waterfowl
(Type 071)$56

Like KF said, don't take any risks if you're tired. No hunt will ever be worth having a member get hurt. Hope to see ya there, if not next year. Nikonut /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

P.S. Edited for more info. Thanks KeeKee!

Gino,

Non-Res lic are $115.00 plus the lbl permit. If you need a place to stay drop me an e-mail, we got a big cabin and so far there are just 4 of us staying in it. Me, lawhorn (just a pup, dont take up much room) Biggun, and jerry.

Ky is right dont take no chances of geting hurt. We plan on cooking every night. To far to drive to eat out. If I can help just drop me a line.

I forgot about the 5 day lic!!!! $32.50

Hey Kee i already offerd him a place to stay about a month ago!!! I told you about it about three weeks ago i told you we had sent a few emails back and for, but i guess where im just a pup i still remember and your so much older you just forgot lol.

You can get the licenes any where in the state or by internet but the lbl permit probably will have to be bought at lbl or by mail from lbl or one of the close towns.Thats the way it was a couple years ago. I dont know what time LbL closes or opens the welcome center or if they are open on Sat. I still dont know if im going to get to make it myself if i dont hope you guys have to do alot of skinning.

For those attending the LBL coyote hunt:
This may have been posted before but well worth bringing up again.

Lawhorn,

I'm with you! It's getting close and I can hardly wait. I've been reading the posts and seeing the pictures from the Globe hunt and those attending sure had a great time. Wish I could have been there, but this will be an excellent hunt also. Looks like at least 35 have signed in to get badges and who know's how many more might just show up.

I'd like for everyone here to go to this link if you haven't seen it yet so we can all understand and appreciate the reason we will be able to do this...especially the part about regional gatherings. Congratulations to this year's recipient Jim Champion aka "RiverRunner" on a job well done! 2004 "Will Craig" Award

You should also note that our very own and beloved...hehe, "Critr Gitr" aka Robert Livesay was also nominated for this great honor! Congratulations "Critr"!!

I wish i could have made it to globe!!! Did you see the pictures of all the members that were there. It would be awesome if we had that kind of turn out at the LBL but i really doubt it will happen. But the good thing about that is we get more of waynes chili!!!

I made our reservations down there at the lbl along time ago. They were supost to send a ref# to me snail mail. I still havent got it.

Anyone else had this trouble? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I got mine on the 13 of january. Send wanda an e and ask what the holdup is.Everyone should already have them that reserved before the first of hte year. Jimmie

Some info on what last years trappers took in zones 2,3,and 4. A total of 81 came out of these areas we know of.Some trappers either did no good or simply did not bother to report.

Trapping zones this year are 5,6, and 7 in Ky and 12 and 14 in tenn.. That happens to be the heart of the areas I have been working and scouting in. This doesn't change groups habits, just their numbers. These groups will be in the same areas reguardless. A hundred animals could be taken out of there and not really dent the population that much.By the time we get there any groups wiped out will have been replaced by dispersal of hte others. Jimmie

I would not be able to come down until Saturday. I am forced to make the class Friday as it turns out plus I'll need to sleep that night. I could leave early am (4 ish) and make it there around 4 or so in the evening Saturday. I already have Monday off but that would only leave me Sunday to hunt as I would have to return Monday early. That makes for a hellish weekend and to be frank I'm getting too damned old for that. Guess I'll have to make it next year.

Sorry to hear it, Gino, but I think you're making the right call. There should be several digital cameras at the hunt and I'm sure guys will be eager to post their comments when it's over. It won't be like being there, cause you won't have Wayne's chili, but I bet you'll be able to catch the flavor of things pretty well. And hopefully we'll do better this year, which will just improve things for 2005.

me and my buddy ralph arent going to be able to make it. really stinks cause i was looking forward to it. you guys have a good time and be safe. lawhorn give me a yell and me and u will hook up some time. p.s. i got a cpl new guns ruger m77 old style in 25-06, shot a nickel size group at a hundred yards yest. and a nef 243 with bull barrel and lam. stock. looking forward to shooting it. any way let me know how you all do and take plenty pics. katie you keep'em straight. see ya'll

Drago, Could you scan them and share? Please?

I have been using a new method this year. Stalking them. Worked several times last year and I have called in 4 and shot a total of 13 from one field. Randy Merta knows where I go alot. The Staunton mines. Crawling with them. No call necessary.

Bigguns, hope to hear from ya this week. jerryboy
