3 1/2" rifled barrel for an 870

I don't think they every made factory Remington 3.5 " slug barrels. There were some single shot 12 and 20 gauges made in 3.5" . Doesn't lightfield make a 3.5" 20 gauge slug too.
 
No, the company that did that was Hastings. They partnered up with H&R Firearms to create a single shot 20 ga with a 3.5" chamber. From an article I read a while back, they had used it to buffalo hunt.
 
What are you hunting that really needs a full 3 ½” slug to knock it down? A 3" slug is pretty danged potent and wouldn't be considered a lightweight shell anywhere. Lot's of guys that hunt deer and black bear only feel the need for the 2 ¾” slug. Heck, plenty of fishing guides in Alaska where brown bears might pose a threat rely on 3" slug guns for protection. But it is your money and your shoulder…

Thanks for the correction. I remember reading the article somewhere, but could not remember which company.
