I made it out yesterday for a rare non solo hunt. I was able to get my brother out with me for a day of calling and we had a good one.

First stand was a blank but we had talkers from 5 different spots. So we decided to move in on a where the nearest howls came from. We got set up in a small bowl with only about 100 yards of visibility and only about 60 yards on my hard right. I told my brother that he would be watching everywhere but the short side and i would be set up for the short side. the howls had come from the direction he was facing so I was trying to get him on them. About 6 minutes in i had taken my eye off the ridge just 60 yards in from of me, and next thing I know i here the familiar sound of running footsteps. I quickly look to where i was supposed to be watching and a pair had come in hot. I got them stopped before they could get over the ridge and we double tapped one of the coyotes. It was a small female.

The next stand we had one coming in but I think he busted us. He was coming in hard but spun and took off when he got to 400 yards. We were not very far from where we had just called so I think it potentially could have been the one that got away from the pair we had called in.

The next stand I called in a single right to my brother. He put it down at 40 yards. The coyote came in to some coyote fight sounds. It was another female.

2 stands later we got set up in a spot we had heard some howls from. Our options for setting up were fairly limited due to terrain but we knew we needed to call this spot. There was a very small valley in front of us that could barely keep a coyote hidden up to 40 yards in front of us, otherwise visibility was good. I told my brother to have his gun up and ready at the end of that valley because I had a feeling if anything comes it would use that small valley.

Just 3 minutes in it happened. A hard charging pair came up right where I said they would and it was a crap shoot from there. He had forgot to dial down the zoom on his scope and was still set on 18x. He couldn't get them in his scope and any squeaks or woofs only sped them up. we missed a couple runners and off they went.

a few stands later we had a coyote check up at 450 and we couldn't get him any closer. I think he had seen us looking at a different coyote that was way off and had seen us walking in. We took a shot but it was a clean miss.

The last stand of the day was a weird one. We had walked into a spot and were trying to decide where we should set up. We talked about moving to our left to set up on a small hill or to set up on our right and sit in the tall grass. we choose to go left but when we turned back that direction there was a coyote standing right where we planned to sit. So I quickly sat down and got on the tripod knowing I needed to make it quick before he turned and left. But oddly enough he started to walk right at us. I lip squeaked him and shot him at 40 yards. I'm not sure what that coyote was doing but I assume he just didn't see us because he was looking into the sun, however he was straight down wind of us. I would have thought it would have scented us.

Over all we killed 3 saw 16 counting the ones we saw driving between stands. This hunt was not one of my best for taking pictures, and I apologize for that. We could have killed more but it was still a great day.
