30-06 7400 and reloads

I am getting ready to reload for my 30-06 Rem. 7400 semi-auto. I choose Nosler 165 grain Accubonds. I chose 165 grain because after doing some reading it looks like I will probably have to load a little lighter for my 7400 and I didn't want load even slower for a heavier pill. I was wondering if any one has any expierence reloading for this gun and what your recipes might be. I have been reloading for a couple of years and know that each gun is different and to work up to any load. Thank you for anyone that can help.

i use 165 grain bullets in my 30-06s. they are great on coyotes. mine like varget. but H/I 4350 is are other good choices. 24hourcampfire has a whole thread on 30-06 and riflemanjournal has some precision loading. i have not loaded for remington 7400 however.

This will be my 1st time loading for a 7400 as well. From what I've read I think I need to load like I am loading for a Garand. Which is about 150fps slower. Or if anyone has reloaded for it, can I load like I am loading for a regular bolt gun? Hmmm, I guess I could since I have fired factory ammo thru it have not had a jam or malfunction. If any one more expierenced about this gun knows, their advice would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and by the way, I was hoping to use Varget and other extreme powders as well. I like the idea of being able to do load development in winter/spring and not have to worry about pressure spikes when I get ready to hunt. Thanks for the reply Ronin.

Here's a load that my family shoots for many, many years:

150g Sierra or Hornady flat base
52.0g of IMR 4064
CCI 200 primer

really accurate and deer just flop.

Well, it is not one of your listed powder choices but I use 55.0 grains of win 760 under a 165 gr partition in my rem 742. That is a mid-range load and it shoots an honest 1.5" group. Works as well as I need it to. Best of luck!

Blue;

Thanks for the info, I would be extremely happy with 1.5" groups from my 7400. Do you know about what velocity you were getting?

I have no idea other than that it is likely within the range of "standard" 30-06 velocities. 2700ish would be my guess. I know it is enough to push the bullets through deer. 98 percent of my shots are within 200 yards so I'm not overly concerned.

I've had very good luck with IMR4064 and Nosler 165 gr. Ballistic Tips in my Remington 7400. Despite the creepy trigger I was able to get several sub 1" groups at 100 yards off a solid bench rest.

My load for my newly aquired 7400 in '06 is the Sierra 165gr SPBT over 50 gr IMR 4895 and I get 2692 fps! This shoots to about 1.25" three shot group at 100 yards! This load is 2 gr from a max load.
