Like the title says. In caliber 30-06. Between:

Ruger American
Savage Axis
Mossberg 100ATR

If all 3 were identical in price and you was gonna take one to the dance, which one and why?

Savage Axis, you can do the trigger job in 15 minutes. I have not seen 1 that did not shoot. And the strait feed clip is nice. Sen a couple of the other 2 that do not shoot well at all.

x2......you cant go wrong with the axis or american.....just forget the atr

been running a mossberg ATR since they first came out. I have been using it every year for a truck gun and light pack gun for deer and shoot atleast 1 every year with it including my biggest buck. It has never let me down and with my handloads holds 3/4-1 inch groups at 100yrds. yes the stock is trash (as are on all 3 rifles listed), the trigger sucks, and she kicks like a missouri mule but for less than $300 it just works!

all three rifles will serve you well for a cheap hunting gun, So pick the one that fits you best and rock on!

I have an ATR and it is a stone cold shooter! I know the bolts are a cheap junky design and I would not recommend one for that reason. But they are not bad shooter's. Why don't you PM me and I'll make you a EXCELLENT deal on a really nice Savage in 30-06.

Own an Axis, but not other two. Gent at range who fired an ATR several Sundays next to me working on reloads for his son, thought the ATR was a pretty decent rifle. Considering he owns some pretty darn nice rifles that shoot quite well, I'd lean toward the ATR, but probably buy a Ruger American before the ATR. Easier to replace its barrel, if necessary.

I own the american in 243 and the axis in 308, i like both guns alot. The axis definatly needs the quick and free trigger job, the american has an adjustable trigger that is crisp. Both rifles are very accurate for what they are, i have no complaints about either one so its a toss up to me.

I ended up with an axis, doesn't look or feel great but its a savage and shoots far better than I can. Give this article a look, they reviewed several rifles and one of them was the savage. i found it to be a pretty good read, definitely worth checking out.

Hehehe, forgot,the link.

Fwiw i own a couple rifles and the collection varies, year by year. I realy like my edge. Its light, it shoots really well, i dont worry if i scratch the stock, and i paid 200 for it new. It was a duplicate caliber with a more expensive rifle and when i decided to ler one go i didnt even think of selling the edge.

Im one of those oddball types. I dont care what it costs or if its "pretty". I only care about what happens when i pull the trigger.
