plus the fact that you can shoot the spitzer shaped bullets in a single shot, which have the higher balistic coefficients than round nose, flat point, hp etc of standard 30-30 ammo.

like i said......superb single shot TC contender round!

can you picture a 110gr v-max at 2600-2700fps on coyote? or a 125gr nosler bt or 150gr nosler bt on deer?.....all in a handy lil lightweight rig.

all right....rush out n buy a G2 contender now.....n order up a custom contender barrel in 30-30AI..........
 
Even though the 30-30AI may gain twice as much(not 3X) velocity as the 223AI, it is still a "dog", velocity wise, as far as .308s go. Definitley NOT treading on the heels of the 308 Win in any way. And the 308 Win is certainly no speed merchant.......
 
If you hunt lever guns and want a little more oomph out of the old Win/Marlin, the 30/30 AI will give you some more. Of course is it the greatest cartridge in the west? Not by far. It is an easy rechamber for a lever gun or single shot as the rim stops the reamer from going too far. Many people hand ream chambers for this.

I bought a 30/30 AI reamer from a guy off the internet and when it showed up it was a 22/30-30 AI reamer which he had reamed his chamber by hand with, I passed on using it and sent it off to a gunsmith that might have some use for it. I imagine that makes for a funny looking cartridge, but should have some zip to it.

As is the 223AI vs. the 220 Swift, 22/243, etc., etc.
