30-378 Weatherby?

How many times are you going to shoot it. I know someone that has a 338-378. It serves the purpose but he sticks with the lighter bullets and after so many rounds he gets a lasting headache.

I had one 113gr/Retumbo with 180gr bullet almost 3500fps it had a factory muzzle brake. I never did hunt with it bare rifle was 9 lb +, 61 rd per lb of powder and brass runs now $3 per case and factory loaded $6 plus so not cheap to shoot. Rifle was a good shooter just alitte more rifle than I needed sold it got a 300RUM.

Don't know all that much about it, except my dad had one that was fun to shoot.

It's expensive to shoot though. Factory ammo runs around $120 per box of 20. Empty cases run about half that much per 20 from what I remember. Replacement barrels aren't cheap either if you shoot it very much.

For dedicated long range shooters, it's a good choice. It has essentially the same energy at 400 yards as the .308 Win at the muzzle.

Inside of 400 yards, I think it's just extra recoil, blast and expense. A 30-06 or .300 Win mag will do the same thing to an animal at 400 yards. I've killed buffalo and elk with a 7mm Rem mag shooting 145 grain bullets without any trouble. I can't imagine needing more gun for the lower 48 unless I wanted to really reach out to longer ranges.

But if long range is your game, that'd be my choice.

reviving the thread... deleted my previous response, which perhaps was funny only to me.

I love mine. I have shot alot of big game animals in the US and Canada. I have taken caribou at over 550yds and dumped them in their tracks. My Dad took his first bear with it and knocked it down right there. I love it for long range shots. It is my go to gun for all big game hunting. Only draw back is weight. I hate carrying it in the mts here in colorado it kills me.

I love the 30-378 it is my son and myself go to hunting gun.
Elk, goats, yotes.caribou have all fallen at long ranges to this gun. With the muzel brake you can shoot it all day long.with the adj scope turrete we shoot up to 900yds.
