30 mm Mounts

What brand 30mm mount do you recommend for a flat top picatanny railed AR?
I would like to discuss the difference plus or minus -- single rings compared to a one piece mount such as the peeper or LaRue detach mount..

I like to stick with one piece mounts for ARs or bolt actions. Cheaper and reliable mounts I use are the RRA Cantilever or PEPR (SWFA SSALT is identical). They help get the scope forward enough for my liking.

This will be for a 6x45 so don't know if I need the 20 MOA. I would like to have the scope mounted as close to the rifle as possible without any obstruction . I will be running a Mega side charger c the regular charging handle option as well. With the SC I don't see a reason to have the scope pushed forward.. Open for more suggestions.. Thanks for posts!!

The rise and cantilever is to compensate for the ergonomics of the AR stock. You have a straight comb stock that will not allow you to get the scope right down on the barrel. You will also see the need for the scope to be forward due to where proper cheek weld is obtained. The cantilever isn't really to do with the charging handle.

pahntr760 is correct. There are some scopes that have sufficient eye relief to use a set of high rings but many will need the cantilever to get it forward enough for proper eye relief.

So do you go with the cantever mounts that are slightly forward or even more forward.. I guess my question is can they place the scope too FAR FORWARD???

The LaRue cantilever mount pushes the scope out a few extra inches, which helps with eye relief that is needed FOR SOME SCOPES. Not all scopes need this.

For example, I have a Leupold 6x18 that needs a little extra room. That LaRue works great for that scope. As to pushing it out too far, I still have several points on my upper that I can move the mount/scope forward or back. I also have a VX3 3.5-10 that sits in a Warne RAMP with no extra relief and it works great.

Compare your scope's eye relief to something like a VXII 6-9 or something like that (which needs no extra eye relief).

YMMV, but that's how I see it.
