300 blackout

I have a AAC micro 7 and love it. Super quiet with my suppressor and subsonic ammo. Killed two bucks last year with hornady 110gr. Bought some Barns 110 to try this year. Dropped them both with one shot. My 9 year old daughter hunts with it and loves it. My friend just got back from Wyoming Antelope hunting with his smith and wesson blackout. Killed two antelope with it. It's a nice accurate low recoil round.

It has some purpose. It is fun suppressed, it is able to shoot a heavier bullet supersonic as well. It would make a reasonable choice for a short range deer rifle for the recoil intolerant. The AR platform with the adjustable stock would help that too.

It would all depend on what you want to do with it. If you are looking for a deer rifle, there are better choices. Coyote rifle (suppressed) works well, unsuppressed there are better choices. Storming Bin Laden's compound it might work.

It certainly does not have the devastating shock/trauma on coyotes like the 223, but it does drop them.

awesome feedback. I'm definitely interested in the caliber. Mostly for coyote. I agree that there are better choices for deer. Thanks.

Excellent choice for everything UP TO and INCLUDING deer. Solid performer with 110 gr bullets. It's plenty of gun for deer. My new .300 AAC AR is going deer hunting with me this year.

Actually the 30/30 is "more powerfull" than the 300BO. It would be cool to have one supressed shooting subsonics, but then you are pretty much shooting pistol ammo type power. (Which will still kill stuff).

Unless someone is planning on attaching a can, I see no advantage.

I did not say it would not kill deer, but if mainly a deer rifle, I would suggest something else. Especially if we are talking real deer, not just mopping up the herd a little.

I guess I should have said trajectory was about like. 30-30. I didn't mean to imply that it has the same knock down power.

I wasn't correcting you but stating the facts. Lot of guys have claimed this chambering into something it's not.. It's a niche cartridge. Not a versital cartridge.

I see a lot of people shooting way oversized calibers at game, either because they can only afford to own one or two guns, or they can't make a killing shot without massive knockdown power. Up until 2 years ago, every deer I ever took with a rifle was killed with one shot from a Rem 788 in .223 rem. I built a 788 in .308 a couple of years ago and used it for deer that year. I find little value in shooting deer with 30-06 and magnum calibers just to give me a larger kill zone on the animal. Accurate and ethical shots put more meat in the larder than poorly placed magnum gut shots. there seems to be a disturbing trend with today's shooters toward the "Long Range Rifle" and without the time and resources to become proficient in long range shooting with magnum rifles, I expect to see a lot more injured game rotting in the forests. The niche that the .300 AAC fills is the AR platform as a sporting weapon, both suppressed and unsuppressed. I'm looking forward to using this diminutive, yet powerful caliber for this year's deer hunt. If a 55gr bullet in the spine can do it, surely a 110gr bullet can, too. Happy hunting to you all.

I'm not downing it, I'd actually REALLY like to have a blackout (especially with my TB 30P-1 already sitting at my Dealer). It's just that some guys read things on the internet (that are a bit scewed) & really want one. Most of those same people scoff at theusefullness of 30/30's. That's the part that don't make sense to me. I have no doubt that the blackout will kill deer (it's much better than the sharp sticks that kill deer everyday this time of year). I just think if you wrote "300 Blackout- less powerfull than a 30/30" they wouldn't be near as popular... Maybe I'm wrong.

Some cartridges are more "niche" than others. The 243Win has a large range of usefulness, the 25acp... not so much.

Iv got a 300BO in a 16" AR as far as deer 200 yds is about it. After that its starting to get iffy. The bullets just dont want to expand.

As far a a niche cartridge probably. Its a neat little package. Try it with a big bullet and a can. You will fall in love with it.

My 8 year old grandson likes to shoot it and got his first deer with it.
