300 remington Short Action Ultra Mag

I'd keep it. Take up reloading, buy a bunch of brass (the SAUMs are kinda dying a slow death), and start reloading. Then shoot the heck out of it and have fun. If you want to sell it, I'll give you a hundred bucks! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sell it, sometimes there is a reason certain guns are donated. Ammo is spendy and not available. A local gunstore recently closed selling things at cost or below. Can you guess what the only rifle ammo left standing was. All of the Remington short action & long action ultra. Even at 75% off it was still there. If they would have had the Remington Etronic ammo, it would be right next to it. The WSM kicked there butt.

I believe the Remington 300 SUM is the best of the short mags because it is a true short case and gives you about the same vel as the Win version or the Long 300 Win Mag. You have a great hunting rifle and cal, now all you need is a set of dies and a hundred new cases. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think I am going to keep it. Probably drop it off this week at the gunsmith for a trigger job. I think a 4-14 Nikon would go good on top of it.

In the 300 SAUM it's not worth a lot because even Remington is not making rifles any more in that caliber. So I would keep it and reload. Anytime in the future or now you can rechamber it for the 300 WSM and it will be worth more money. There is only about 100 fps difference it the two.

In all reality there is no difference in velocity or accuracy between the SAUM and the WSM. Remington has NOT stopped all future development of the SAUM and in light of recent events at Winchester, it is likely a better choice. The rifle is likely a good one and will out shoot most of us in the field. If you look around, you will be able to find components and even ammunition that is about the same price as .300 Win. Mag.

If you handload I would keep it. Buy 200 pieces of brass and a set of dies and you will probally be set for life. I doubt the 300 SAUM is going to make a comback even with recent events at Winchester as the 300 WSM is already so accepted and way in the lead. Remington has started to chamber for it. A bunch of other companies already do as well while not the 300 SAUM. The only SAUM that stands a chance is the 7SAUM.

Yes, but if only Winchester firearms were chambering 300 WSM's that wouldn't matter. In Remingtons case the only other manufature that I'm aware of chambering SAUM's is Ruger who does the WSM versions as well, and also sells more WSM versions.
As to the 300 SAUM both it and the 300 WSM will not survive. I'm guessing in a few years the 300 SAUM will be six foot under....though that won't mean much to a reloader.

I have one in a Model 7 also black synthetic/stainless. I love it, it shoots well for a short, light gun in a magnum caliber.
It does kick like a packmule with the 180gr Hornady SST's that I loaded for it. But it is a excellent big game rifle. More than likely you won't shoot it as much as a smaller caliber, so ammo is not that bad.

bea175 says 100 cases; Mike Eversole says 200; chuckaholic says 200 cases; well that means I should buy 500 right? That would keep this rifle in service forever. I am going to keep it. Although not sure what I am going to do with it. I live in a shotgun only zone for deer. Might be an overkill for coyotes, but it might be just the ticket for a woodchuck everyonce and a while...lol

Armalite is also chambering their AR-10 in the 300 SAUM, according to a rep. they tried the WSM but it didn't work out.

i was told buy the guy at my local store that remington is getting rid of there SAUM and are going to start chambering teh WSM. becuase of case disgn the WSM is more effecient and loads better. THis is just what Ive been told.
