My dad had a 300 Savage Model 99 I’m looking for info/value of. I know they made various models of the rifle. It has the brass shell counter and a latch to remove the forearm. Looks like there may be a hinge pin/screw on the receiver (not sure if takedown mosel). If any of you gentlemen could provide any info on the model/possible value it would be appreciated. Thank you.

My dad had a 308 and a 300 Savage in the model 99. They are very cool lever guns and from what I have see just poking around on different sites, depending on condition they are going for $500-800 dollars.
If I ever find one in excellent + condition I will probably pick it up if for nothing else but nostalgia.

If it has a latch on the forend it is a takedown model. There were two different types of take down, full thread, you need to unscreww the barrel and interrupted thread where you just make a quarter turn to remove it.

In collecting 99's condition and grade are everything. I used to have a number of 1899's and 99's, when my eyesight failed and I needed to use a scope I sold off all my originals that I couldn't mount scopes on. My 1899B in 25-35 Win brought over 1K 20yrs ago with a cracked stock I bought a 99 in 308 that same year for $100 and another with rebarreled(with a surplus 03 springfield barrel) 300 Sav for $75.

There is a Savage collector site on 24hourcampfire that can really answer your questions.

The rifle is indeed a takedown, can't really tell much else from the pictures. There are lots of resources online for the Savage collector / enthusiast. Looks like a pretty nice old rifle.

The Lightfoot mount allows mounting a scope on any 99 without drilling a fine old gun. I have two on 99 take downs and they work great.

Other than they are fairly new and weren't around when I was into 1899/99's and Stilth mounts were rare and expensive. Yes, it is nice to have the Lightfoot mount available now, just don't lose your rear sight when you take it out for the Lightfoot.

I have one that I inherited from my grandfather. It is a takedown model in .250-3000 Savage. According to the factory site and the serial number it was manufactured in 1926, so soon to be a century old. It remains an heirloom, even though I did take one deer with it, and it still functions well. Great old gun for sure.

My 303 is a 1926, shot a Lion in Utah with it in 1995. Have a 250 that's I think 1931. Both take downs, put Lightfoots on both in the last year. My 300 is 1949. Kick myself for the ones I passed by when everybody was chasing Winchesters and ignoring 99"s.

The fellow making the Lightfoot mount stopped making them. WAIT either he is going to start again or someone else I'd going to. The best way is to go to the Savage Collectors thread on 24hourcampfire.com and look for the threads on the Lightfoot mount.

PM me if you can't find it.

I saw a pretty decent takedown 99 in 250-3000 today with stith mount and scope, scope dates 1938 and the rifle 1919 if what they said is true. Seemed fair at $1400?
