300 WSM

Nope. And yep. Killed one in New Mexico at 40 yds with a 300 Win Mag- 180 sierra gameking. No exit. Not real fur-friendly. Have used the 125 Nos BT on them out of the Win mag and it gives new meaning to the term " Nothin but chunks". At 3800 fps you can "skin" them in a hurry . Catch them comin' in or straight away works. I do not own a 3oo WSM but I load for a few. My experience is that they like flat base bullets. We use the 180 sierra prohunter in them. The game king(boattail) would only do about an inch at 100. Good luck.

It would take a barrel with something like a 1-17" twist. There is a guy out on the internet that shoots chucks with a 125 grain bullet at 4000fps.
 
Had a friend shoot one with his 300 Ultra-mag. 180 grain bullet at 3380 fps. Like Dave says not fur friendly. I often use my 280 Remington with hunting loads prior to going deer season. 140 grain bullet at 3000 fps. Again not fur friendly. I don't harvest coyotes so it just saves the critters that clean up the coyotes some time.

If your talking about using light bullets in 30 caliber like Sam said your just going to have to do some range work to see how accurate they are in your rifle. Sometimes those super light weight for the caliber bullets will not stabilize and not be very accurate, sometimes they will. Only shooting them will tell the story.

You can shoot them out of your 300 WSM.

I have shot them out of a 300 Win Mag (it's faster than the 300 WSM) with a standard 10" twist and they shoot pretty well... but that a lot of gun for a ~30 pound critter.

It will get Godawful messy, and you will need a sponge to clean it up.

Can't answer your question directly, but can tell you that I get good accuracy and about 3500 fps with a 125gr nbt and 4350 powder from my 300 WSM 22" barrel. The ballistic tip has proved more accurate that the lighter hornady bullets I've tried in all of the 30 cals Ive tried them in. I hate to say that because, overall, I'm a hornady fan. I would expect the effects on a coyote to be spectacular. I've even gotten good groups with the 125nbt from my 300RUM at velocities approaching 4k.

I'll skip the gory details, but decided that the 30 cal mags do their best work with heavier bullets and coyotes and smaller varmints is why they make smaller calibers. Some of this experimenting did, however, change my personal definition of "splat factor".

My dad shot one from 80 yds w/t my 300wsm(150grn bt's) got him in the lower jaw, bounced off a tooth (?) and in to his thanker. Really fur friendly (if you shoot them in the head.

My Dad shot on with a 300 short action ultra mag with a 150 gr core lokt, it was chasing a doe and it was facing him...it was a beautiful red coyote and would have loved to skinned it... when you shoot one in the chest with a short mag... it wasn't pretty.
 
I shoot 110 g. Hornady SP's out of my 300 win mag at 3800 fps. and they are very accurate.

A friends wife shot a yote in the yard with his 45-70 Marlin, it was loaded with a 300 grain HP at 17-1800 fps. Yote was running away it's tail passed it but it flipped over backwards at impact.... real disasseter
