I now there are some guys out there having accuracy problems with these gun in the smaller calibers, But havent heard of any trouble with the big game calibers. i want to get one in 300WSM and was wondering if anyone knows of any accuracy problems w/ the bigger calibers????
Thanx

I own a Model 70 feather weight carbine in 30-06. I have had it for 18 years and have only missed one deer in that time frame (due to a mound of dirt blocking the vitals). Have hit them from 220 yrds down to 40 yds. When I first sighted it in I was able to cover a three shot group with a quarter at 100 yds. I have never had to adjust the scope since that first outing (something to be said for good scope mounts. Recently shot two bobcats at 125 yards square in the forehead, so I would say I have had no trouble with my guns accuracy. The gun will shoot better than I can.

Good luck with your decision.

I have on in 223 & have not had any problems. I have not shot it enough to have much accuracy info. My initial trial was 1.75" 5 shot groups at 100 yrds with FMJ ammo.

In 300WSM the weight would help with the recoil but it may get a little heavy to carry all day. With a scope, sling, & ammo you will be near 10.5 lbs. If I was going to do a lot more carrying than shooting I may opt for a lighter version.

I know of one guy who gets on the internet and says that his rifle won't shoot worth a darn.

Well, I have at least last count over 2 dozen Winchester model 70's and they ALL shoot very well. I only had a problem with 2 out of at least 24 over the years that ever gave me any problems and never have I had an accuracy problem with any of the Winchester model 70 Classics or Safari grade rifles, nor any of the Select grade model 70 Winchester either.

The one problem I had was on a .375 H&H, it had a bent extractor from the factory and would NOT extract the empty shell every time. The other problem I had and they fixed it on the spot was a trigger problem and that too was really minor.

NOW I will say this one time only! The model 70 Winchester per-64 action, is the finest production rifle ever made and still is for a fact. It is known all over the world as "The Rifleman's Rifle" ever since I was a kid.
