Going to pick up a new to me Savage 116 300wsm on Sunday.
New cartridge to play with...plus I am going Moose hunting in October so we will work up a load.

I put together a few rounds for the initial site in and ran some over the crony....impressive speeds, using H4350.

I will be testing that powder with a 178g ELDx. Started with 61.5 grains, win brass, cci 200 primer. Velocity was 2930. Going half a grain above and below for my next outing.
Was thinking on picking up a box of 200g ELDx as well.

This is my first go round with this cartridge, so far it's impressive, considering that's just a hair over minimum.
My other big game rifles are chambered in 308 and 35 whelen. Oh a lever in a 444 marlin. A had a single shot Ruger in 416 Rigby but traded it off.

I bracket my .300 WSM with a 6.5x55 and .338 Win, though I just recently started gearing up a 7mm PRC. The WSM has been my "go-to" for over a decade though. It's pretty hard to beat for just about any big game hunting.

I don't reload but my Kimber Mountain Ascent and my Browning BAR shoot the Hornady 200 Grain ELDX about the size of a quarter at 200 yards. Thats all I need for me! I think you will love your new rifle!

Moose are typically shot at shorter distances, 200 yards would be long. Select a tough bullet for the higher velocity of closer shots. The bullet needs to hold together, possibly at 50 yards or closer.

I've been shooting my 300 WSM for years and found that a 165gr bullet works great for whitetails. I bumped the charge a little over time, and it's still easy to handle. Also, if you’re picking up another rifle or upgrading your gear soon, it’s a good time to buy gun safes to keep everything secure and in one place. Makes things way more organized in the long run.

Went out and shot the 200 eldx at 245 yrds. I am happy with the accuracy and velocity so far.
Using Imr 4350 at 2810 fps.

Don’t waste you money on eldx for moose , was using 200gr eldx from my WSM on a moose at 150 yards last year , bullet fragment bad when it hit a bone didn’t penetrate to vitals , moose ran off tracked him for a day finished him with a nosler partition from a 3006. Lots of front shoulder meat damage. Messaged Hornady to see if they had a bad batch of ELDX was told ELDX was not designed for large animals at closer range.

Ok thanks...did not see any Moose, bear or wolf.
Buy had a great time with the lads. Maybe next year.

I did shoot a bunch of grouse using my .177 springer which was a lot of fun...tasty too.

I'm late to the party, I shoot 180 grain TTSX out of my Tikka 300WSM. I use H4350 and get 2950 fps. I'll have to update on charge weight. Hope you have better luck next next year.
