New Criterion barrell on the way. For 600 -800 yrd shooting, do i want a smaller bullet like a 125 nbt for fps....of a bigger 175 smk for higher bc? And what kind of speed can i expect out of a 26 in 10 twist usimg h4895 ? What do yall use ?

I shoot a 26" 10 twist, my range at home goes out to 700 yards so far my favorites at this range are the 155gr scenar and 168gr smk. I've shot primarily varget and rl-15 in the past but due to lack of availability ive been working on loads for both bullets with imr 8208 xbr. I haven't stretched the distance past 200 yards yet but i have a promising load for each the 155 ive got 2900 fps and the 168 just over 2800. Hopefully i can get out to 700 this weekend and see how they do.

I would go with 155 to 175 for bullet weight.. At that distance the BC is really going to start to show.

I would go with the 175 SMK. Better BC. I shoot a Broughton 11.25 twist MTU contour. Run H4895 and get 2754 fps. 26" barrel. Shoots pretty good out to 1000. Are you using this for Paper or Animals? You might also want to look at the 168 SMK out to 800. Have shot them out to 600 with good results but I like the 175 better.

I'm not a paper shooter except for load development for hunting rounds. Having said that, I have great confidence in Berger 155grn VLD bullets out to 600 yards. My gun liked the Berger bullet pushed along with TAC or VarGet, at no more than 2825 fps from a 24" HVY bbl. The rifle was an AR-10 YMMV.

Holy high-pressure batman!

Naw... he just pulls the trigger harder than the rest of us.

That sounds like a pretty stout load or maybe my loads are wimpy because I am only getting 2600fps with the 175gr from a 20 inch barrel. The 168gr do well to about 700 but beyond that range go to 175gr or bigger from what I have seen.
I am using XBR8208
