Im researching loads for the .308 win for a friend of mine. We shoot yotes and hogs out to 400 not much further than that, what are some of yalls favorite loads for these applications?
I was leaning to the sst because we shoot alot and thet are reasonably priced. In my .270 win they blow up inside 200 and i rarely get a blood trail on hogs does the slower velocity of the .308 make the sst expand properly?
I have found the Serria 125 gr. works well with 48 gr. Varget. I tried 49 gr. of Varget, but the ctg would be too full and hard to keep from spilling the powder. This load came out of the Hodgdon load manual, and yes it is compressed.
i shoot 165 grain hornady sst oer 41.5 grains of acc. 4064 and they expand out good on everything ive shot got complete pass through on deer at almost 300yrds. exit holes is usally around a coke can for me
Either a 125 gr. Nosler B.T. or a 125 Speer TNT
51.3 gr. of WW 748
Fed. 210M Primer
Win. Brass
This load wrecks coyotes. I have killed 5 deer with the 125 B.T. all were one shot kills.
150 gr. SPBT GameKing
46.8 gr. of VithaVouri N540
Fed. 210M Primer
Win. Brass
Works good on deer sized game.
165 gr. HPBT GameKing
47.1 gr. of VithaVouri N550
Fed. 210M Primer
Win. Brass
Works on hogs and deer. A very good penetrator at 308 velocities
180 gr. Sierra SPBT GameKing
42.4 gr. of IMR 4064
Fed. 210M Primer
Win. Brass
Works good on hogs and deer. Good penetrator at 308 velocities.
Standard disclaimer applies. None of the loads are maximum in my rifles or any of my friends that shoot these loads.
