.338/06

If you like heavier bullets, I think you'll like the .338/06. Several folks asked "why not a 35 Whelan?", and the answer is that there are more .338 bullets available. I also seem to recall that for the same bullet weight, the .338 delivers better ballistics due to its smaller diameter and greater sectional density.

A simple re-barreling of the bolt action 30-06 of your choice
is all that's required... Although I'd add a good recoil pad if the rifle has only a butt plate...

All great rounds and very close in performance.
I love my .338 Win Mag with 210 to 215 grain bullets.
(200's are good also)
When you get up to 250 or 275 the recoil really kicks in.

I would encourage you to build the .338-06.
It sounds like that is what you want to do and I believe you will be very happy.
