Any of you guys shooting one? Do you like it? Muzzle break?

Im just day dreaming, not looking to buy right now... Ive been spending time on google lookin at "the big boys" and I think when I decide to take the dive ill go this route!

Anyway, just wanted to hear/see about yours!

Thanks!
Brian

I am thinking about going this route as well. Check out the 338 edge as well. Its a .300 rum necked up to accept a 338. Its a beast.

^Ya I like the edge as well!

I still have a ways to go and will have to actually lay out the details and look at $ and whatnot before I make the final call.

I just wake up sometimes and all I think about the whole day is a gun that I want! I think theres probably a problem there!

Ohhhhhhhh.....trust me I understand your condition. Two rifles I think about these days.
1.) A remmy in a 338 edge or 338 lapua with a manners stock and probly hart or krieger barrel
2.) Hopefully kies firearms can put together an ar 10 in a 7mm rsaum

These are next on my list.

Im gonna have to google this 7mm rsaum! Never heard of it but I have an ar-10 that has a lonely 308 upper!

Heck a 300 RSAUM would be pretty cool too!

The long version is the 7mm remington short action ultra magnum. Basically a 7mm mag in a short action cartridge, its cousin is the 7mm wsm

Yes, the 300 rsaum would be cool. Anything in either a rsaum or wsm in an ar10 platform would be super awesome.

yes yes, the two I have been planning and working towards are the AR10 in a 7mm SAUM. With my PMAG mod, I believe I can load 180VLD bullets and have the ogive just outside the case neck. It will flat out dominate anything in an AR10 style rifle.

The other I'm working on saving $$ for is a 338Lapua Mag in a Tactilite bolt action upper for my existing platform with the upgraded Supermatch Lothar Walther SS barrel upgrade

I'm all about modular platforms. If you already like the trigger, grip and stock of your AR...why fix what isn't broke.

Bohica makes uppers too that are a bit cheaper, but I have been reading much better things from Tactilite.
They run 338, 408, 416 and 50bmg but they are a custom shop that will build ANYTHING you want for a price.

I have a M700 LSS 338 RUM and it is a tack driver right out of the box! No brake or porting, recoil is brisk but manageable, even from prone.
I have taken elk, mule deer, wt deer and a bear with the 338 RUM and everythink has dropped in its tracks. It is one of my favorite rifles for sure.

I am pushing the 250 gr AB at 2980 fps and the 250 gr PT at 3024 fps.

JD338- that is a sexy [beeep] rifle! I think ill probably end up with something very similar.. What kinda glass do you have on there?

Cbass- How far along are you on getting the 7mm SAUM in the ar-10? I like the 338LM however my ultimate plan is to make this rifle my "everything gun" when I get out of school. I will be reloading by then and the prices ive seen on LM brass are like $2 a pop! I know lots think its worth the larger initial investment but I dont think ill ever be serious enough into it to be able to justify it. I was want something obnoxiously big really!

Well, I had planned to just have a new 7mm SAUM built from scratch, but this is proving to be a little more expensive than I can afford right now. I tried to get a hold of a SAUM bolt either from DPMS (who refuses to respond to emails of any kind) and Armalite (that is sold out forever)
I think what I'm going to have to end up doing, is just buying a used 300SAUM and having it rebarreled to my liking.

If I go the rebarrel route, I maybe be able to get the whole rifle for $12-$1300. Basically the same price as a new 300SAUM is going for online.

I've been doing so much research on it lately that I get bummed when I can't find parts.

what I'd REALLY REALLY like to do, is design a wild cat specifically for 180VLDs in the AR10...capable of shooting them in the 3200-3500 fps range. (i have the design in mind and the case picked out), but going that custom would be way way way to expensive.

That would be awesome! It would be cool to go through all the stuff and design you own round. It seems like the ar-15 guys (I know youre one of them

get all the cool new rounds.... I only have the ar-10 at this point in time.

Its funny that you mention DPMS... I was JUST thinking about them. You may recall a while back I posted some pics of what the bolt from my "new" upper looked like. I STILL havent got a response. I had a guy on here talking to me until I mentioned I had a problem and then he disappeared too! I love the gun but dang.... some pretty piss poor customer service!

Are then a few choices or uppers in 300 SAUM?

Scope is a Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x40mm.
The rifle is stock, exception is a Pachmeyr Decelerator reciol pad. It really took the sting out of the recoil.

I have been asking around to see if anyone has used whats called "RCBS.LOAD" Its a program designed for wild cat guys to estimate results of designing your own 'cats. Everything from H2O case capacity to velocity with various shoulder angles and necks. I really want to try it, but its a lot of money for a program that would only be fun to play with considering that I'd likely never end up following through with it.

With the 300SAUM, as for what I've read, DPMS and Armalite were the only ones doing it, and both have since abandon the idea because sales weren't very good.

I really want to start shouting from the tree tops, the plan of action that I had in mind for that wildcat...but it would be better to keep it a secret and eventually get to name it in the future lol. Kind of a cool way to leave your finger print on the shooting world.

Yes sir, planning on hitting some rocks this spring at 1k yards. At 600 yds, the impact is impressive! My longest kill with this rifle was on a CO bull elk at 350 yds, dropped him in his tracks with a high shoulder shot.I used the 210 gr PT but have since standardized on 250 gr.

Shooting the 250 gr AB, it has a BC of .575 which is pretty good for a GAME BULLET that has PREDICTABLE on game performance.

Guys, I just sold my 300 RUM and I am already missing it! I got a custom 6.5-284 to take its place so that took some of the pain away! All the RUM calibers are ballistically great! I was looking at getting a 338 Lapua built a few years ago and after a little looking around found that the 338 RUM is a real close match and brass was less expensive when it comes to reloading. Has anyone seen any wildcat 25 calibers made off the RUM? I bet it would be a barrel burner, but you can always buy a new one!
