3d night vision

First glance it looks like a commercial version of our homemade night vision options.IMO, they would be better suited for a bait station type situation than in the field. The reason I say that is you are aiming by looking at a screen rather than looking through your scope as normal. These type NV setups work. Some work better, at least a clearer image than regular NV scopes. You just have to aim/sight totally different than you are used to.
When I tried to use my homemade one in the field, I got busted multiple times. Whether the coyotes seen my IR light on me back lighted by the illumination from the screen I will never know. I am well aware that coyotes and hogs see IR light. Some don't seem to mind while others CHECK OUT!

Indi,

Weekender is right about the 3-d unit, which operates on the same principle as various home-made units. They are great for bait hunting where you can conceal the backlight. I know of some guys putting a red filter over the LCD to keep the glow down and have less face illumination. For me, I hunt from inside a storage building make-shift cabin and the light is contained inside the building, so not a problem when using it like that. I haven't tried it out and about, calling etc., but Weekender apparently has and results were not positive. Perhaps the red filter might help with that.

This 3-d unit in your link has less clutter than my home-made unit, ie no wires dangling etc. and is more self-contained, but it operates much in the same way. The units (depending on which one you get) have pretty good resolution too. Below is an example of my home-build job that I mounted on a CZ .17 Remington. You can build the unit I have for around $250 or so, less the cost of an illuminator and 12-volt power source. For a cheap and effective system, it works pretty darn good for close ranges. 150 yards with a good illuminator should be OK, but closer is better.

Another consideration, if you can afford about $300 more, is the new ATN X-Sight 4k. I like mine very well so far and you can use it day or night, has onboard recording and an 18-hour rechargeable battery.

I have several examples on YouTube channel of home-made night vision. You can check them out if you are interested. My channel is: 6mm064

Here's one coyote I took with the unit.

thanks 6mm06. yeah i wouldnt be doing bait stations, just calling. the 3d one im looking at offers a red filter to block some of the backlighting. something for me to consider

I think the red filter will help with backlight. If I were looking for a scope in that price range I too might consider the 3-d, but also there's the X-Sight 2 scope that can be had for near that price. It's good to have options. If the 3-d has a return option if you aren't satisfied with it, then it might be more attractive. That way you could determine whether it might work well for your situation or not.

I have had one of the 3D night vision units for over a year, I use it mostly for shooting coon and Grinners off the bird feeder, it comes with a red filter that go's on the screen to cut down the light. It will defiantly work but to be truth full you would be a lot better off trying to find a deal on a ATN X sight II, you should be able to get one of them for not much over $400, I have a couple of the X sight II and a 4K Pro and for the money they are not a bad scope.

Fully agree. I liked the X-Sight 2 even though it had a few glitches. It still was a good scope. I like the new 4k better though. For the money I can't think of anything better at this time.
