# 4 Buckshot in Pa. now Legal

........any bigger and folks might poach that unsuspecting deer.
ohio has something similar...........
Statewide Muzzleloader Deer Season - It is lawful to hunt legal game and furbearers (including coyote and wild boar) with shot shells containing shot no larger than #4 (except waterfowl hunters may use larger steel shot). If you are hunting coyote during the statewide muzzleloader deer season with a device that is lawful for deer hunting, you must also have a special deer permit with the temporary tag attached that is valid for the zone or unit being hunted. Waterfowl hunting and the night hunting of furbearers is also permitted when the season is open. All persons (except waterfowl hunters) hunting during the statewide muzzleloader deer gun season are required to wear hunter orange.

Is "T" shot legal in Pennsylvania? I wanted to try dead coyote loads but I am not sure even after reading the laws in the hunters digest. (guess I am not bright)

Is it #4 SHOT or #4 BUCKSHOT???

There is quite a difference between the two. Number 4 shot measures .13", while #4 buckshot measures .24".

In Missouri, if you are hunting other game during deer season, using a shotgun, you are limited to shot no larger than #4. Number 4 buckshot in your shotgun, or in your possession, would win you a citation.

Hey neighbor Where do you live at in PA?

I live in Blair county. I mostly have luck with foxes. I keep trying for coyotes but haven't been to successful. We have seen a few however in deer season on a farm I hunt in Huntingdon county.

My questions is why would you need to use that size shot? I have been hunting many years and #4 lead shot has always worked flawlessly. Much less pelt damage as well.

for years we were not allowed to use shot that was any bigger then what was in season. and most of the season either small game is in or turkey. at night we were allways allowed to use BB but no one did. anyhow still using bb because I bought it at a good price a few years ago and most of the time bb puts them down. plus #4 buck is hard to find and expensive. anyhow #4 hevishot will put a fox down i believe up to 40yds. I hit one at 20yds and it did a back flip.

Hello
Number 4 Buckshot was easy to get, my local gun-shop ordered it for me, 3 inch, 12 gauge, Remington, 5 rounds to a box for around 3.50 per box.Which is CHEAPER then I paid for a Box of BB last year.

#4 birdshot doesn't generate enough energy to "consistently" anchor a coyote at ranges much past 20 yards. If you want to kill out to 40 or 50 yards you are going to need a bigger shot.
Save the birdshot for turkeys and get some size BB or larger for predators.
