4 hogs

Michelle ,Leanna {my oldest daughter } and I went hunting today as I was loading the other gear Leanna was supposed to get my .243 ,about 4 miles down the road she said she had forgotten it. It was already too late to go back and I had the kids New England youth model .223 in the back of the truck so I decided to hunt with it.Michelle dropped me of at a sunflower patch to still hunt.I had traveled about a mile when I saw hogs weaving through the weeds towards me,I let the first two get close because there was a cow standing behind them.I saw a bigger hog coming and found a small opening in the weeds about 70 yards out, as soon as he entered the gap I squeezed the trigger on the little .223 the hog dropped, I quickly reloaded {NEF are single shot} got on a small hog and dropped it as well.I stood there quietly after reloading again to see if any more hogs would pass in range. A group of small pigs circled back around and ran right up to the boar as soon as two lined up I knelt down and fired hitting the first one in the head, thinking I hadn't got the seconds one.I could no longer hear any hogs close by and went to examine my kills when I noticed a good blood trail leaving the scene I followed it about 20 yards and found the second pig ,having hit him low in the chest,he no longer had a heart! I'll be having the three little pigs for dinner tomorrow!

Okay, now this is get'n crazy. You're shooting hogs like quail now! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Those spotted ones are purty lil' things. Tasty too!

I see a trend here... Every time you go out to hunt AND LEAVE SOMETHING BEHIND you have great success! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Congrats on the 'quad'!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Great shooting! And with the .223 Hooo-ah.

Question: is the spotted variety closer to the feral farm hog (rather than transplanted/escaped game hog)?

90% of all hogs found in Texas as well as the rest of the states have domestic origin, some european blood gets in the mix from time to time, but according to pure european hog breeders spotted hogs crop up from time to time in the pure stock as well!
the boar in this group looked pure european and had the extra tooth they claim prooves that they are part european, however the two I killed with one shot were with the same sow and I'm assuming were litter mates,1 had the extra tooth 1 did not ,the little brown looking one is colored exactly like the pure european hogs. I think there is a lot to be learned about them ,because like it or not if you don't have hogs now, you will!

You got that right. Here in michigan we have been hog free until the past 5yrs or so. Now we can hunt them in our own state.
