4 inch x 4 inch grid hog panel

Will average coyote be abke to squeeze thru 4 in x 4 in grid hog panel or chew thru wire.
Don't everyone laugh !
Am working on custom live catch trap.

If anyone on this site is current or retired
Local, state, or federal law enforcement,
I can't believe how society has turned,
But still believe half + of nation backs you like me, don't know what it's going to take to get back to old days.

If you can build a cage, you can bed a trap. Heck buy 2-3 footholds and make 3 flat sets. Anchor in the deck or use a drag. If you use a drag make sure whatever type you use will catch on whatever vegetation is nearby.
Regardless of what you use you still need a trapping license and all mandatory gear per state laws. And all traps have to be tagged. Pretty sure that’s a law in every state.

If... an average adult coyote could get through a 4x4 welded wire hog panel. I would have to personally see that. Otherwise, I vote NO. An adult red fox would struggle to get through that same wire.

The ranches I hunted used hog wire that must have been about 5x6"?? squares and I have seen at least one coyote dive through the wire at full speed, but he left a puff of hair behind. On another occasion, I called a pair of coyotes up to a border fence that really wanted to get at the decoy. They walked back and forth along the fence & made several attempts to cross it but finally gave up and left. I later noticed that section of fence had the smaller 4" squares for some reason and was extremely tight w/no crossings under it. Gave me the opportunity to take the only two pictures I ever took of live coyotes. I'm not nearly as accomplished photographer as Bob, who gets great pics of the coyote before he shoots it. :ROFLMAO: That was the last time I made that setup.

Based on the above, I'd vote no, an adult coyote probably cannot get through 4" hogwire, because those two really wanted a piece of that decoy.

Mmmm? I think it would take a pretty young coyote to get through a 4” Hog Wire panel. At least here in NY. This skull is from a 40 lb male which is common here for an adult male. I think if it managed to get its head through, it isn’t going any further! Lol…

Now chewing out is another thing and a possibility depending on wire type I suppose.

Hmmm, Bob, what you're telling us is that 4" hogwire is to a coyote what a gill net is to a fish. :ROFLMAO:

Think this photo says the answer I was looking for, will proceed purchasing panels.
will post dispatched coyote, probably in spring, trip and bait are key element,
Can't show you guys too much,
Hunters, trappers, and firearm people are a lot sharper and faster than me,
And you'll be off to patent office,
Leaving me in a cloud of dust.

The photo of skull and tape measure tells me what I was looking for, thanks.

My mistake for sure, was thinking the squares on livestock fence were 4x4. watched many western coyote slip through the 5x6 squares.

But will still stand tight that targeting coyotes with cages is a waste of time and money.

Hey, let him build. He’s been given enough advice he’d have already caught them if he wanted to. Some folks just like to tinker. I know there are trappers who catch them in cages in like Washington and other states where footholds are outlawed, but they’ve been doing it a while and learned the techniques.
I don’t know about escaping a cage like he’s building, but I’ve had a landowner send me pics of a coyote climbing his high fence, lol. He listened and poured gravel the entire perimeter of his fence so they decided they couldn’t dig, then they’d climb!!
