4 Rail or Tube?

Hey All

Could use a little advice on a new 6.5 Grendel build. Looking to build a 16" barreled tree stand rifle and having a hard time deciding between 4 rail tacticool and standard free float tube handguard.

My current AR has a ff tube, which is OK...don't have any experience with the rail types. What do you all think?

Four rails are good for mounting all kinds of misc. crap and ain't easy on the hands.

Go with a Hogue rubber overmold grip for a hunting rig. Much better in the cold & provides for a sure grip with gloves on...

would only recomend the 4 rail for a tactical or home defense weapon- for a normal hunting rifle- highly recomend the FF tube instead. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have no experience with the 4 rail other than picking one up and looking at it in stores. I went FF for hunting. Like they said above, unless you need a bazillion add on's, go with the FF. The 4 rails seem to have too many small areas to snag and catch on branches, clothes, drawcords, lanyards....etc..

If you need to mount a single object on the handguard, there are specific small mounting rails made for that...

The four rails are really uncomfortable and snag on everything.

Thanks for the input. There seems to be little doubt about the proper direction.

Who sells mid length free float tubes? All I'm finding so far are carbine or rifle length.

I have a free float tube with 1/4 rails and full top rail its made by YHM and reasonably priced. It is on my bull bbl 16" carbine and it gives more room to grab without the feel of rails all over and it floats over my gas block.
