40gr V-max ... 22-250

There are a few threads running on the 40gr for .223, how about the 22-250. Anyone have good results shooting the 40gr v-max in a 22-250? I checked out a box of them the other day, 4150 fps at the barrel. Pretty quick, anyone have any accuracy results on them?

that is all i run in my old ruger tang and it shoots better than i can shoot it, 1/2-3/4" groups. i roll my own as well Ron

I just got done testing about 12 different loads in my new Savage Predator in '250. I was using Nosler 40 grainers over 38 gr. of Varget. My MV was right at 4,000 fps, but my rifle did not like them with the powder I was using--I probably will not try the 40 gr. VMax even though I have them on the shelf.

I was only shooting at 50 yards due to some range contraints, and the group was right at 1". I will shoot them again at 100 yards to see what they do, but I settled on a 55 gr. Hornady SP load that shot a one hole, 3 shot group in my Predator with 35 gr. of Varget.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies.

timb, I'll be driving through your neighborhood this week on my way to Colorado. Its been a long time since I took the drive down I70. I hope it goes by fast.

Cheers

A cheaper, excellent 40 Gr HP in the 22/250 is the Sierra 40 HP, have shot em for 10 years w/ 35 gr of 4064. And, now nobody wants em cause there all after the boutique bullets so you can find em for $15-16.

40 grain pills @ 22.250 velocities are in a word, "VIOLENT"! That speed + small bullet = explosion! I learned the hard way on a nice fox that I should have never been shooting with my groundhog gun. I knew that the load would turn a woodchuck inside out, and I have no idea whay I thought it would perform any differently on a fox... heat of the moment I suppose.

My 12FV liked a load of 37.5 grains of Varget with the 40 grain Noslers. Shot consistent 1/2-5/8" groups at 100, if I did my part.

35g of IMR-4895, win case, cci 200 or WLR, bullet seated .010" off the lands, 4000fps and 1/2-3/4 MOA at 200 yards from 2 different rifles. One being my dads Ruger target w/26" bbl, and my browning a-bolt w/22" bbl.
