41 lb male coyote down and one miss

Got to the first farm at first light, played some dying rabbit sounds only to spot a coyote in the distance (400yds away). It dropped into the tree line not to be seen again. Stayed on stand for 30 minutes before packing it up...
As I make my way to the truck, I spot a coyote as it spots me (150yds away) and takes off into the bush. Thinking I should go to the other farm not too far away and then come back and try to see if this one is still around.... Anyway
Get to the second farm and setup.... About 6 mins in, this male coyote comes running in. I WOLF him to stop at 90 yds or so and take the shot dropping him in his tracks.....

I stay and call for another 5 minutes before thinking about packing it up. As I get my gear together, another coyote (maybe its mate) starts barking and howling. I spend the next 20 minutes trying to get it to show itself but no luck. Even as I packed up and dragged the dead coyote to the truck, it was still challenge barking me. It will have to wait for another day to see my in person.

After taking a few pictures and dragging him back to the truck I go back to the first farm, this time I setup in a different location. After about 5 minutes here comes the coyote.... It must have seen me move because it turned at about the 100 yd mark. I got it to stop at about 120 yds, but as I squeezed the trigger, he move and I missed :)
The plan was sound, just the execution, not so much... :)

It is a great day just to be in the great outdoors, even if you leave one for later! That was a whopper and is seldom to never seen here in my neck of the woods. Stay after them critters!

41 lb would be a really big coyote around here. Average is 27-28. For the contests with heaviest 3 coyote stringer a guy needs to be hitting about 34-35 lb each to be in the running, around 100+ lb for the stringer. That might or might not win it, but it puts you in the hunt. 40+ lbs is a monster of a coyote for us. Congrats!

The biggest I weight came in just over 49lbs but got one or two bigger than that, that were not weight, so maybe just over the 50+ mark
