44 Mag.

DSC_0003-7.jpg

This is my new deer hunting pistol I just need to get my scope. Super Redhawk .44 Mag 9 1/2" barrel

i have a freedom arms 555 50 AE and i can say it is the finest revolver ive ever put in my hands, however i do have a magnum BFR i would rate it second as a smooth revolver for half the price. Rugers makes very nice revolvers too Ron

I have had no problems loading max loads (using Win. 296 or H110 powders) for my 629. Been shooting it going on 15 years, and I still have both hands.

Confucius once quoted:

" Once I saw 2 deer at 100 yds. I had a scoped handgun and my friend only had open sights. I had loins for dinner that night and he did not."

Well everybody is entailed to their own .02 cents /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I guess !! I happen to like my Ruger I've had 3 of them and they all shoot great.

That wasn't aimed at you. You were just last in line at the time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Well, since we're showing our 44 mag revolvers....

Next in line is a model 29 classic, but Mrs. 49 doesn't know it yet. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

How come the 44 mag is a "super blackhawk" while the 41 mag is only in the "blackhawk"? Whats the difference?

I have a Ruger "new model blackhawk" in 41 mag w/6.5" bbl and I have read quite a few good things on the pistol and caliber. The Rugers seem to be very strong and will hold up better to hot loads. I"m still trying to work on getting mine to group consistently, but it will usually put 4-5shots in about 2-3" off a sandbag at 25 yards. I actually plan on putting a 4x scope on it in the near future and shooting it out to 100-150 yards.

I got mine for plinking, coyotes, and the occasional deer and black bear. I figure 210g at 1400fps should be almost as good as the 240g from a 44 mag.

Does anyone know if the grips for the super blackhawk are interchangable for the regular blackhawk?? I dont see any grips specifically labeled for a new model blackhawk, but there is tons for the super blackhawk. I'm just looking for a set of rubber replacements for my new model blackhawk. The hard polymer ones have got to go.

Good looking shooters fellas. I have a 6.5" barrel S&W 29-2 and my favorite of all is my S&W 629-3 Mountain Gun 4" .44.

kyotekiller25, my Ruger Blackhawk in .41 Mag wore a set of Hogue Rubber Grips, I think mine were for a blackhawk/super blackhawk, not sure though. Made a world of difference though. The ones I had are still hanging in the gun shop I traded my .41 at.

kyk25: Some of the grips are different, but I believe that you can interchange grip frames, and therefore, grips amongst most of the Ruger single actions if you wish. Check out Brownells on that - you can see which grip frames fit which gun frames.

See if this pix works - differences in Ruger single action grip frames:

If not, here's the article from gunblast.com - I think someone just posted this link here the other day for someone:

http://www.gunblast.com/Ruger_Bisley_Hunter.htm

I'm thinking of getting a Bisley grip frame for my SBH as everyone brags up how it changes the felt recoil to something much more pleasant and controllable. The Hogue grips are more pleasant than the factory's in my opinion with stout loads. I do really like those Hunter's [beeep] with the solid rib and scope mounts - maybe reason to spend some $$'s I haven't yet?!?!? LOL!! The weight probably helps with the recoil too.

If I could own only one big game hunting revolver, the above would probably be it, as it cannot be beat for sheer strength, versatility, and durability. It would, however be chambered in 45 Colt, not 44 mag. The Bisley configuration is where it's at, IMO. That said, I went with 2 separate big game revolvers.........

The big hurt (480 SRH):

45 Colt Bisley Blackhawk:

The 480 is stock save for the Hogue grip that did not come on it. The 45 Colt has tuned action/trigger, lighter springs, Belt Mtn. Keith-style lockable base pin, one ragged hole sights, and grafted pitacchio grips........

I ALSO SHOOT A SUPER B HAD MINE FOR SOME TIME IT CAME WITH A 71/2" BUT AFTER PACKING IT FOR YEARS HAD THE BARREL CUT TO 45/8" SURE MADE A DIFFERENCE. STILL SHOOTS JUST AS GOOD AS IT DID 20 YEARS AGO.

I had a stainless super blackhawk with 7.5 inch barrel for several years. Would not shoot for c*&p. Son in law had one too. Same crappy shooting.

OTOH, he has a .45 LC blackhawk that shoots great mild or hot with any bullet we load in it.
