If I ever get to where Im seeng coyotes more on a regular basis Im gonna take my 45-70 just for fun. Id love to roll one into the next county with it.Anyone else?

If you have a modern, strong 45-70, you can crank it up to some serious power levels. A 300gr Hornady JHP at full blast would really blow some fur around. It would be very humane! Don
killed one with a 416 Rigby last year at 70 yards. It was defienetly bang FLOP. It wasnt near as cool as i thought it just took his legs out from under him like you snatched the rug from under him.

Don't think you'd have had any slugs that would have opened up on something so relatively small as a yodel dog. Quite the hammer nevertheless. Don
I've shot a few coyotes with my Marlin M1895 .45-70. It is pretty uneventful and about what you'd expect, boom - flop. Not as dramatic as a high velocity cartridge impact.

I live down by Evansville but do all my hunting up just south of Terre haute. Its all private land although we have thousands of acres of public land all around.
My wife's coyote rifle is waiting on a new scope right now, so she is running her deer rifle for dogs: Marlin Guide Gun 1895 Stainless .45-70 with a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40mm scope and with Hornady Leverevolution 325grn FTX's right now for coyotes. 325grns at 1792fps, can't wait until she can whack one with it. Sure hammers deer!

Oh just take it out on them you need to get some "distinguished" marks on it anyway.
