I was kicking around the idea of building one of these, custom barrel of course for deer hunting in ohio.

Since the ohio deer hunting laws support using a straight walled cartrige .357 or larger,,then why not?

figuring on a 12-12.5 inch barrel,,hopefully it will not lose too much velocity.

Who is a good custom guy to tackle this?.......X

I think your good to go.

All straight wall pistol cases, 357,44,454, ect. have a taper.

It's pretty simple they have to have a slight taper or you could'nt load or extract them!

the 450 Bushmaster is a straight walled case by definition of pistol cases (357,44,454) not a bottle neck like 30-30 ect.

Ohio law is vague at least 5" length and straight case, .357 or larger.

I'd stay with 14-15 in. tube.

Should be a helluva piece! SSK Industries here should be able to help!

I'm not sure. loads are around 250+ grain. I'm sure with a decent muzzle brake there not bad at all.

take the free hand and cup the bottom of the mag.

Bushy had a sale awhile back on the 16" 450 upper around $500.00. have her trimmed and re-threaded 14.5 or so.

It'll beat most handguns and shotguns at that! Maybe 1800+ fps. out of 14.5

May have to put one of those over sized taget grips on it for a better hold.

Maybe someone that shoots one of these will chime in.

if ya could get a custom barrel done up .980 with a good break it'd help.

of course you know you'd pucker the the backside of the purist in Ohio when they see that hogleg.

I can see a great deal of consternation on there faces now at the site of it!

ya might be able to use a stock 16 inch Bushy 450 upper on a pistol lower and go from there. That'd keep costs down abit from custom work.

I'm not sure on what regulates a pistol from a rifle, law wise? Seeems T.C. makes super 16 barrels for there pistols?

maybe someone thats sharp on firearms laws will chime in?

That sounds pretty crazy to me.

coyotex. I ordered the Ohio guide to firearm laws.

the book is wriiten by Ken Hanson Attorney at Law.

I'll check and see if Ohio has a law on Maxuimum pistol barrel length.

I can't find much with google.

There is no Federal law I can find retricting a pistols barrel length. You might be able to just pin a 16" 450 carbine upper on a AR pistol lower.

This way you could get double duty out of your 450 upper. Simply pin it on a rifle lower and blow up coyotes and chuck's. LOL

Well i hear they kick about like a 20 gauge shotgun,,,wonder if a guy can hold that without getting cracked in the head?

well the plan is soo far,,put one on a rifle lower,,,run some testing and reduced load function,,,,see if it is able to be" pistolized".....then that jp howitzer break might be the ticket......X

Let me know anytime you want to shoot mine. Personally, I dont want anything to do with that beast in a pistol- break or not. As far as "smiths? DIY. cheap and easy. MGI is where I got my stuff. They have a 16" barrel for 225 and the bolt is 65.

As far as reduced loads? you can get by with some pretty light weight stuff, but then why not just go with a different cartridge?

that sure looks like an affordable way to go.

Its a great way to do it if ya have extra parts layin around.

Anyways, if your willing, Ive got a 16 inch upper and a pistol lower. My version of common sense has kept me from putting the two together. But to each his own. Ive got shells hot as your ego can withstand and can load them as mild as you want. If you can control it, I cant think of a better cartridge for ohio deer out of a "pistol".

Gimme a holler

I SENT YA A PM.....I have never seen one,,which doesnt mean it cannot be done....could be the first,,,or the first fool to be rushed to the ER to get a AR removed from his skull...........X

That would be very illegal. It is never legal to convert a rifle to a pistol unless it was originally a pistol. You would have to use a pistol lower.
