.452 in 45 ACP

I was reading a post and saw someone talking about berry mfg bullets. I am intrested in there products but noticed that are all .452 dia not .451. I wan't to buy some because of the low price to play with but am not sure if these are safe to shoot out of a glock 21 45. Any info would be great.

From 1873, until just prior to World War II, the .45 Colt had a bore diameter of .454". Post war production changed to .451" - .452", duplicating the .45 auto. Modern cast bullets available through retail always seem to be spec'd at .452-.454", however, cast bullets always run a little larger. Jacketed bullet size seems to vary depending upon the manufacturer; Speer .451", Hornady .452" and Sierra fence straddles at .4515"

Either .451 or .452 will shoot out of a modern ACP or LC. There really is no telling which your gun will like until you try both.

Glock pistols and cast bullets are supposed to be a no-no because of the Polygonal rifling.
Plated bullets like Ranier and Berry are said by some to follow along the cast line and are supposed to be bad.

That stated, I have run cast and plated bullets in my Glocks with no ill effects. Just clean them good when your done.

The Berry bullets like slower velocities in my experience and are harder than Ranier.

Before you go too far, read the warnings on shooting cast lead bullets through a polygonal-rifled barrel. I think Glock warns you not to try it. Extreme lead fouling.

I'm just sayin (edit: about one minute late, I see). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I was under the asumption that they where a jacketed but I guess I am wrong. so what ColoradoOsprey is saying is that they are a cast bullet that is coated?

The plated are fine in a poly barrel, I shoot 40's in my HK all the time. Make sure you bell the case enough so you don't scrape the plating while seating. Crimp just enough to remove the bell. If you over crimp them, even just a little, they want to keyhole.

peace.

plated in a glock is fine but if your shooting lead your playing russian roulette it's just a matter of time before you blow your gun up.Read an article at Brian Enos forums on this.Lots of people have seen them blow with people shooting lead loads. If you wanna shot lead just buy an after market barrel most are around $100 or less and can be had in gunsmith fit or drop in.Cheaper than buying a new gun and or a trip to the emergency room
