454 Casull and bullets

Ok I see all sorts of different .45 cal bullets. .452's .454's and .458's?!?!

I know some .45cal pistol bullets were not designed to handle those pressures, but I am looking to buy some and I see different sizes and information like .454 225gr (Long Colt) or 200gr (460 S&W)

What the heck. Help.
 
Most .451 & some cast .452's are usually for .45acp .452 to .454 for .45 colt, .454 Casull ect.. .458 for 45/70, .458 Win mag, Lott ect..
 
I think the Casull chamber throats are bored to use .452 bullets. The .454 bullets are for older colts with loose chambers (cast lead). I use the Hornady and Speer 300g slugs in my .45 Colt Ruger Bisley. They are .452", and the Speer 300g sailed right through a #200 pig. The bullet entered right behind the left shoulder and out behind the right ear,,,,,,,BOOM----FLOP, one or two twitches thats all!

I was shooting the 300gr. FTXs this weekend with 29.5gr of Winchester 296. They shot great and had enough flames to be seen in broad daylight.

How did you get the OAL short enough with the FTX bullet nockhunter? I had a box of them and the were way to long to use in my Ruger super Redhawk.
 
Ok. Thanks. I was really hoping there was a way to shoot the Flex tip out of it but I couldn't see how to make them work.i sold them to a buddy that has a 460 XVR.
 
How far were they sticking out of the cylenders? I wonder what would happen if you could just take a rasor to the rubbery tip and cut it flush to the jacket.
 
What other bullets are out there for this cartidge. The only bullets I can find are 300gr XTP and some cast stuff.

I know there are other jacketed bullets, but what? Even if they are out of stock I would like to find something I could try out if I wanted to.
 
When i got my Model 83 years ago. I was shooting 260 grn bullets with no success accuracy wise. So i called Freedom Arms and they told me to shoot out of that gun what it was designed for. 300 grn plus bullets. I've been shooting 325 grn hard cast ever since.
