I’ve had a slew of ar15 and ar-10 based rifles. I had at one time 9different 556/223wylde rifles sitting in the safe. It seams I always get bored with them though. Same ole same ole. I parted out or sold and traded most of them. I turned one into a 6.8spcll that I can use for a bit more knock down for coyote or general hunting. I’m in a group on Facebook that’s a builder page. A memeber(who I’ve turned into be property good Facebook friends with) posted some barrels for sale. Turns out I ended up buying 2 458 barrels from him. He’s actually a barrel manufacturer from Iowa. Ordered a bolt for my buddies from underground tacticle. And mine from Lehigh defense. Mines a 14.5” and his is a 10,5” since he wanted a pistol. I used some of the funds from the sales of other parties and ordered up 400pcs of starline brass and 500 300gr noslers. I opened the ejection port up on an adams arms upper I had. I’m running a phase 5 bolt carrier and put a 13.5” handguard on it. When I ordered my barrel he asked what thread I wanted and he settled me on 5/8x32. I ordered a brake and had it pinned by a local Smith for me for 25 bucks. I also came into a jcs total brake that is nice, titanium but I’m not fond of the length of it on the rifle(3.5”). I’ve got to say. The 458 is one of the funniest shooting ars I’ve owned. I got some Lehigh bullets and also some 405gr Remington’s that we’re sitting on a shelf at a Mom and pop reloading shop for 50% off. I’m in love with the 405s but seems they are limited production. I’m gonna order some 400gr Speer bullets next time for it. I use rl2400 powder with all of them and it’s a pretty accurate rig. I put an atibal 1-4xstriiker optic on it. It’s abou a perfect set up for
Me for anything I want to shoot at inside of 200 yards. I wish my photo bucket was working so I could post some
Pics but it’s been down for a while. I need to find another photo hosting app to download to. Anyhow. Just figured I’d post up a bit since I haven’t been to active lately on the page.

Could you use lead cast bullets? You can get 405's pretty easy and very cost effective. 11 grains of unique under a 405 is a very fun plinking round in a 45-70 and should work effectively in the 458 socom.

i ended up doing a 450bm for my big bore upper - but only because it made it full state hunting legal then (we cant deer hunt in our restricted zone with bottle neck cartridges).

still a blast to shoot though

Ive seen a lot of guys casting bullets. I’ve been thinking about getting into it but need to wait till next year probably to start buying. The straight wall limit is an understandable reason for the 450. I think if I was in that spot I’d seriously look at the 45 raptor for more Imphal.
