Is there anyone shooting this? I didn't see it pop up in the what's your biggest thread. I've kind of toyed with the idea of getting one. No reason as I really don't have a use for this rifle here in ky, but would love to add it to the collection. Any thoughts. It would be a ruger #1 btw
 
I think it would be a fine rifle for everything from barn swallows to a T-Rex!!
Be sure and wear your mouthpiece and an athletic cup when you fire it!

I have spoken with John Linebaugh several times. Great guy with a great sense of humor. I have been shooting a 480 Ruger since the day they hit the market.

I also shoot really hot 45 Colt loads out of my Bisley Blackhawk in which John gave me the load info for.

475 Linebaugh is a cool cartridge, although I prefer it in a pistol. I do like #1s however, and said combo could be cool also.....
 
Not yet. I'm in the woods deer huntin and haven't had enough service to pull it up yet lol. I'm going to when I get home though. ( some deer hunter aren't I lol)
 
A 45-70 would do the same thing, but it doesn't have that COOL factor.

Imagine a Ruger Number One and a Freedom Arms revolver to go with it. Talk about loaded for bear.

Brian Peirce wrote a very good article on the 475 a few years back, I think the title was "All You Can Handle".

BTW You can get reduced power loads that recoil similarly to a hot 44mag in a handgun.
 
I fired a cylinder out of a 4.5" Freedom Arms octagon barreled revolver with wood grips. It was stoked up with Buffalo Bore 420(?)gr cast, holy bat crapman! It was that bad.

I'm going to disagree with that. The 45-70 has been around for a very long time and has with stood that test of time over and over again with a very rich and colorful history. I don't own one but I will have to some day and when I do get one it will be in a #1. Dave
 
IIRC, the 45-70 and 45 Colt were introduced in the same year and represent the 2 US cartridges that have been in continuous production the longest.

I'd say the these 2 have at least a little bit of "coolness factor' going on......

I live in the same town as Johns parents and brother. My brother lived next to Bill(Johns Dad) for 10 years. I've drank a few beers with his nephew on occasion. Good people and I could almost guarantee it is one heck of a nice gun. I've never had the chance to meet John but my brother has several times and handled a few of his guns. Bill still has the first gun that John ever made when he was much much younger, it involved a butter knife I believe. Getfoxy I think you should get one and let us know how it is.
 
I fully intend on getting one. The question is when . At 2o years of age I don't have a grand layin around. But in the near future I do plan on getting one. I mite have my local gun shop order one in and start makin payments on it. Either way I'll let you guys know something. I'm really wantin this
