5.7x28 for fox and cats?

Every since seeing this cartridge I've been waiting for a more typical rifle than the bullpups to come out. Has anybody ever made a custom gun for this little round? If so please post info/links. Seems like it might make a pelt friendly round for the smaller critters. Not as flat shooting as I expected, but not too bad, especially when the barrels they are using are 10" and 16". A longer barrel and reloading would probably give better results. Anybody have any thoughts on this? Here's one link with general info:

I am just about through with my 17 x28 rifle build . It is a model 700 Rem BDL . I used the 5.7x28 ECT bolt from Midway and the single shot follower . Pac Mor #4 taper 3 groove barrel . I have been shooting the 17 x28 for more than 2 years now . My first rifle build was on a AR15 which I still shoot quite often . It would make a perfect Fox round , but we only have foxes in town and can't shoot them . I have not tried the 5.7x28 round in a rifle yet only the 17x28 17 caliber version . Thanks! Alan

The ammo is kinda pricey but not that bad. Midway has it for $20 per box of 50. You can find it even cheaper than that. I think reloading would be the way to go, even though the brass is kinda high, no virgin brass available yet. I sold 300pcs I picked up at the range on ebay, got $60 for em. Starline is supposed to be making some available soon.
It just caught my eye as being similar to 17HMR but reloadable. I hate leaving brass, even rimfire. Never heard of the 17x28, gonna look into it, sounds interesting.

What kind of velocity and what bullet weight are you using?

I don't have one of these guns but here are some of the specs.

The barrel rifling has 8 grooves, a 1/9 right-hand twist, with a rifled length of 14.8 inches and a full length of 16.1 inches due to the addition of a fixed "birdcage" flash suppressor

SS195LF=28gr JHP @ 2300fps
SS197SR=40gr Vmax @ 1950fps

Handloaders are coming up with hotter loads and using different bullets.

Don;t know about the rifle but my USG (pistol) is 1" high at 50 yards dead on at 100. Really fun and accurate. Put a 2x Nikon on it.

blinko,
How did you put a scope on your USG? sounds cool!
Unloaded,
the 5.7-28 round works like a 22mag but with its centerfire brass it sounds like it would be a nice cat/fox gun in a long tube.I have been told people are taking javelina out at 100yds with the USG and the 40gr load,but being told is one thing and doing is another.I hav'nt done any doing at 100yds on javelina but I have used the 28gr hp as a finishing round on a few cats with a USG.

saw it on FN FiveseveN forums...used a Walther p22 mount, Weaver rings.....because the block (brace) at the rear won't work it has some play in it (but so far has been accurate) ...you also have to remove the front sight....also have to remove mount & scope if you want to remove the slide.......Halo Mfg. had a couple of prototype mounts but were $225.00 range....good luck.
