5 minute homemade decoy.

I'm a newbie to the sport of predator hunting and am at least an hour's drive to a store where I can get some decent predator hunting calls/decoys. I was headed out for an evening sit (4:30-5:30pm), hoping sit number 7 for the month would be the lucky one. I rigged up a homemade decoy real quick and real easy. I took a Polar Ice Fishing tip up and took off everything but the flag arm. I then used a plastic wire tie to secure a gray squirrel tail to the top 4" of the flag arm. I tied some fishing line from a fishing reel to the flag arm and that's it! It will have to do until I can get something different, maybe I won't have too? Needless to say, 7 different stands hunted so far and I've only heard coyotes once. Just have to keep after it I guess. Why are Minnesota coyotes so tough to call? Here's a pic of my decoy. I think I need to add some more fur under the squirrel tail.

Brianc what type of calls are you using mouth or electronic.
I hunt so. of the Twin Citys and did not have much luck calling with mouth calls. Last year I brought a prey master and called in 4 coyotes.

Redfoxfur, go ahead and have at it! Just make sure to post any results you have, or PM them to me!!!

Leaddog, I'm also using a JS Preymaster, but in 7 stands, have only had one group of coyotes respond (yipping/howling), and that was using the coyote/grey fox attack call. I've got 3 different cards for the call, but have maily used the rabbit calls, rodent calls, and housecat distress as we have alot of cats running around. It sure seems these MN coyotes are tough to call. What calls did you use on the Preymaster for success? I'm researching some hand calls as we speak.

That's a good idea for a decoy. I was just going to use a piece of plywood and put a spring type door stop in the middle of it, find the right sized dowling to fit in it and throw some fur on top.

great idea keep calling they will come we are haveing the same problems here the weather just isnt helping matters........
