Only night out this week was last night. Made 3 uneventful sets at the first farm other that a fox. Next farm/set was one for the memory bank.
Had the gun set up and was walking the call out when a pr/group opened up several hundred yds over the ridge to my 3:00 but was answered quickly by a couple howls at my 10:00 in the bottom of my hollow within 2-300yds. I was only about 25yds from the gun but didn't chance going any further so set the call down.
Got my chair set up and tripod adjusted for the steep hillside then started with some pecker. Nada. Next some howls and "they" answer-sounds like 2. After some quiet and social sounds, one shows and I shoot it. I apparently hit the record button too long as I got a fuzzy pic of trees
. A few min later there is booger barking from below me. Normally this is bad, but I decide to 'throw it back' plus some sharp howls/challenges. Dang, it works, #2 is on vid. I run some Kiyi then quiet for 10-15.Start with howls again thinking the original howlers might get closers. About 20min into this sequence I am running social sounds when #3 comes from my 1:00 and gets killed. The originals did answer and may have been closer, so I am staying and basically start a new set again. In silence after howls I see 1 then another come from over the ridge at my 8:00. They are the ones in the last segment. When the first shows up and I move to get on it I automatically hit the 'record' WHICH this time apparently "paused" the ongoing recording, so the last 2 shot are not on vid. which had a little levity because I sneezed when the trigger broke on #5 so have NO IDEA where the bullet went. I am trying to bark, kiyi, howl on the diaphragm and sound like a duck
(the reed split when I was trash talking with #2) but finally got her stopped at 260 with "The Korey Hey".Per onx yardages were 120 to 260. 3males, 2 females 3 adults. Time on stand 63min.
