Yeah Corbin, I read your article in PS on your 1000 yd. shot with a .17/30 grainer. Have you looked at the 30 gr. Gold that Todd Kindler's making? Blaine Eddy, field editor for Small Caliber News is blasting those pills out of a .17 PPC at around 4000 and killing coyotes with it waaay out there. i think it's got a B.C. around .286-- i think.

BC of the Kindler 30 Gold is .270 if I'm not mistaken.

Blaine's using a .100 short .17 PPC he dubbed the .17 DT (dog terminator). Getting a tad over 4,000 with Todd's 30's in it. He killed 80 coyotes with it this winter, including a few long ones, but the long ones are definitely not the "norm". He's using a 10 twist too, by the way. Was talking to him on the phone last night, gots me all worked up to build a large case small caliber for predators and medium long range chucks (400 - 600). Dan Clements' .17 Predator gets the same kind of performance on a .378 bolt face in a repeater too. I've REALLY got a woody for one of those. Same old problem for me, too many wants and too little cash!

But getting back to 500 yd. p-dogs, in good conditions, just damn near any accurate rifle will do. When the wind gets bad, damn near nothing will!

DAA haven't seen you post for a while. Starting on a V.S. 2 this spring??? If you dont mind me making a suggestion. IF you make another video, i think clips from the range and reloading would be interesting too. Also like to see your Mach IV in action

Yeah T, it's been awhile since I've posted here at PM. We are indeed working on a new hunting video. And the Mach IV is going to get plenty of "air time", don’t worry about that /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif . I don't know if we'll have any reloading or range testing in it or not though. That is something a few people have asked for, but I'm afraid it might not appeal to most people buying a hunting tape.

Hey Pecos, don't you mean barrelburner??? LOL!!!

DAA long time no type!!

DAA, how does that mach IV perform? what kind of ranges are you getting out of it? Or am i just going to have to buy your new tape? Do you expect it to be available this summer? Man i have a bunch of questions for you.

I've made a few shots out to about five hundred yds on coyotes with hold overs, for the most part, outhouse luck. That was with 30-06 with 180 gr Hornady SPBT's. Outlaw

Cabman, whatever you decide to do, if you want long-range consistently, make sure you go to some sort of scope that will allow you to reference bullet impact exactly, whether it be a Mil-Dot, target turrets, even the duplex reticle, instead of using the old Kentucky holdover method. If you start investigating this some systematically you will learn more about the guns and your capability than any other type of shooting you can do. It's not enough to just be a varmint shooter, to get a handle on long-range consistently you have to become a tactical varmint shooter.

For those of you looking for a scope taking the guesswork out of rangeing a target, look into a Sheperd Scope. I have 2 of them and I'm thinking seriously of getting the varmint model for my 22-250 Ack. Imp.

have a Springfield govt model 4.5x14 for the 223 on my Remington VS .223. Shooting 50gr Vmaxs I give em a haircut with the 4line at 500yds. At least it works on silhouettes, haven't p dog hunted anywhere I can see pas 300yds or so...

Haven't shot silhouettes either past 500.
