52gr ELD M/// 52gr Amax on coyotes?

I asked for some bullets for Christmas and my dad accidentally grabbed a box of 52 ELDm that was mixed in with the 53 Vmaxs.

I need to develop another AR load like I need a bullet in the head but of all the mix ups that could have happened I'm glad I got the 52 ELDms.

Has anyone tried them on coyotes? I image a case crammed full of Benchmark would shoot these through my BHW barrel quite well, and if they are a little tougher bullets than the 53 Vmaxs I may be glad I tried them out.

I'm pretty sure the new 52gr ELD-M is the exact same bullet as their old 52gr Amax but with their new heat shield tip.

I wonder how those 52gr Amaxs compare to the 53gr Vmaxs on coyotes.

53gr Vmax is a little too explosive on quartering shoulder shots(probably 75% of my shots), if these 52s hold together a little better they may be just what I was looking for.

I've shot a pile of coyotes with the 52 Amax out of my 22-250 running 3825fps. They are devastating. Fist sized exits most of the time, not exactly fur friendly. Internal damage is impressive, violent expansion and enough weight retention to blow out the other side. Id say 90-95% of broadside shots exit. A frontal chest shot is good to go unless you hit them high and it'll blow out the back of the neck.

For pure killing results its by far my favorite in a 22 caliber. I just recently shot the rest of my amax and have some elds loaded but haven't shot them on fur yet. Been taking the bigger guns lately.

I haven't shot them from a 223 and I'm running them as hard as I safely can from my 250 so I can't say how the will perform with considerably less velocity.

Same performance, except with the A-max, one time it will hold together good giving you hope, then the next time it will act just like the V-max and explode.

I understand the attraction to the tipped bullets, and for vermin and paper, I like 'em. But for cleanly killing coyotes I have gone to the Hornady 60gr sp exclusively. And love it. Ymmv

I only shoot sp on coyotes now. Hornady 55 gr sp or Sierra 1365 55gr sp.

Too many splashes and runners with vmax/amax

Thanks for the info. I agree with the soft points, I hunted with 53vmax last year and now I'm testing out 65 gamekings this year. It's been an abysmal winter for testing on fur...

Smokeless & Emptymag: What rifle caliber are you shooting? It helps to know if the bullet is going 2800fps or 3800fps.

I shoot the hornady in a few different 223s at about 3100 FPS

The sierras ive only shot in my 22-250 at about 3650 FPS

I haven't tried the 52 ELDM but the 52 AMAX I've used in 223 for deer and hogs with good luck. They hold together pretty good. I used Benchmark and H322 before with them.
